Everton sack Brian Sørensen with club languishing near bottom of WSL table

Everton Women's Team Sacks Manager Amid Relegation Dangers

The Toffees have parted ways with Danish manager Brian Sørensen, who was only in charge since 2022. The move comes as the club teeters on the edge of relegation, currently ninth in the table and four points away from the drop zone.

Despite a crucial first home win this weekend that moved them to within striking distance of safety, chief executive Angus Kinnear has stated that a change of direction is necessary for progress. Sunday's result was seen as important, but ultimately it wasn't enough to keep Sørensen in his role.

The Danish manager had overseen the team to sixth-place finishes in 2022-23 and back-to-back eighth-placed finishes since then. Assistant coaches Stephen Neligan and Ashley Tootle have also left the club.

In a statement, Kinnear expressed gratitude towards Sørensen, Neligan, and Tootle for their efforts during their time at the club. However, the decision to sack Sørensen suggests that the club is seeking new ideas and approaches in order to improve the team's performance.

Everton has appointed Scott Phelan as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The 37-year-old Phelan is a former England youth international and has worked extensively with the club's boys academy, including managing the Under-23s. He will be assisted by Jennifer Foster and goalkeeping coach Ian McCaldon.

Phelan's first game in interim charge is this weekend against London City Lionesses, followed by a crucial match against fellow strugglers West Ham next week. The new manager faces an uphill battle to turn around the team's fortunes, but some fans may see it as a necessary shake-up given the club's recent struggles.

omg i feel bad 4 brian sorenson lol he got sacked after doin a good job lol i mean 6th place finish in season 22-23 wasnt bad 2c but still gotta give angus kinnear props 4 stickin 2 his guns lol chief executives gotta make tough decisons like this & im hopin scott phelan can turn it around, he seems experienced n all 😂💪 the fans will be watchin closely tho, lets see if hes up 4 tht 🤔

Ugh, just another example of how hard it is for women's football teams like Everton to get the support they deserve 🤷‍♀️. I mean, come on, you're already reaping what you sow with relegation dangers and now you're changing managers like it's nothing? 💸 It feels like nobody takes this team seriously until something goes wrong.

And can we talk about how outdated this whole 'assistant coaches leaving' thing is? It's not like they were the ones on the pitch making all the mistakes 😂. The real question should be why the actual manager, Sørensen, was let go in the first place. I guess it's just easier to blame everyone else rather than having a tough conversation about what went wrong.

And now we're stuck with some new interim coach who'll probably do his best but will never get the same level of support as he should 🤦‍♂️. It's all so... frustrating 😩

omg i dont get why they gotta sack him like 4 points away from relegation and stuff 😂 anyway im watching this match tonight and is london city lionesses a good team or whats their reputation 🤔 everton got some new coach scott phelan or something 👀 i think his youth experience will help with the academy but can he actually manage senior teams tho? 🤷‍♀️

I'm not totally surprised they let Sørensen go 🤔. Four points from relegation seems like a pretty big gap to bridge, and a change in management might just be what they need to spark some life into that team. But on the other hand, sixth-place finishes are still pretty respectable for a team like Everton Women's FC. I mean, it's not like they're getting absolutely thrashed every week or anything 😅. Still, you can understand why Kinnear would want to bring in fresh ideas and approaches if they want to avoid another relegation battle. The appointment of Scott Phelan as interim head coach is an interesting move - he's got some decent experience working with the Under-23s, so fingers crossed it works out for him 💪.

I'm not sure what to make of this decision... 🤔 Everton has been struggling to find its footing lately and I think part of the problem is trying to change the entire management structure mid-season. It's like they're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole 🔄. Brian Sørensen did have some decent results, especially last weekend when they beat their opponents at home 🏠. But maybe it just wasn't enough or something didn't click with his style of play 🤷‍♀️. I'm curious to see how Scott Phelan, the new interim head coach, will manage this team... he's got some good experience working with the boys academy and all that 💪. Can't win 'em all, but at least they're trying to find a solution to their problems 😐.

just got word that everton sacked their danish manager... like, 4 points from relegation already 🤯 atm think its kinda harsh but at the same time can u blame them? dont get me wrong, they did have some good results but overall its been a tough season for em. think phelan's appointment might be just what they need tho - hes had some good experience with the academy and has worked with england youth int'l so maybe hes got a few tricks up his sleeve 🤔 still feels like everton's in a pretty sticky situation, but fingers crossed they can turn it around!

🤔 I think this move is an interesting example of how clubs can attempt to reboot their approach in response to adversity. Sørensen's tenure may have been marked by inconsistency, and while he does have some achievements under his belt, it seems that the powers-that-be feel a fresh perspective is needed to get the team back on track. 📈 The appointment of Phelan, who has youth development experience, could potentially bring in some new ideas and energy to the squad. However, I'm not sure if this change will be enough to overcome their current struggles - they're still four points away from relegation after all! 😬 It'll be interesting to see how Phelan's tenure unfolds and whether it's a step in the right direction for Everton Women.

omg, i know sacking brian sørensen might seem like a bad move but think about it - they gotta try something new cuz things haven't been going so great 😊 the team's had some decent results before, and scott phelan comes in with some fresh ideas & experience 👏 plus he's worked with the boys academy, so he knows the club's got talent 💪 now, it's up to him & the rest of the squad to make it happen 🤞

just can't believe evilton is already changing managers like this 🤦‍♀️ season's not even over and they're already desperate for a fix 🚨 i think scott phelan has his work cut out for him though, last 8 games been pretty meh... maybe a change in approach will help the team gel and start winning some games regularly 📈

omg can u believe they just sacked the manager 4 days after they got that one win? like, what r they even doin?! 😂🤦‍♀️ i mean, sure, phelan might bring some fresh ideas but we all no how this goes... relegation is comin' 🚨😬 and its gonna be a long season for toffees fans

🤦‍♀️ I'm not surprised, tbh... I mean, who wouldn't want to get rid of someone when you're on the verge of relegation? 😂 It's like, you'd think a change in management would be just what the doctor ordered, but nope! 🙄 Guess that first win this weekend was all for naught. Anyways, I guess it's all about trying new things and hoping for the best. Silver linings and all that jazz 🌟. On the bright side, Scott Phelan seems like a solid interim coach, so fingers crossed he can whip the team into shape before the season is out 🤞!

I feel for the lads and ladies at Everton, they're really struggling this season. Relegations are never fun, especially when you've invested so much time and effort into the game. I think the decision to sack Brian Sørensen might be a good one, though - sometimes you need a fresh set of eyes and ideas to get things moving again.

Scott Phelan's appointment as interim head coach is a bit of a gamble, but he does have some great experience under his belt, especially with the boys academy. It'll be interesting to see how he mixes things up and tries to turn the team around. Fingers crossed for them this weekend against London City Lionesses! 🤞🏻

omg can't believe everton sacked brian sørensen already 😱 he was only doing his thing for like 2 years and had some good results too... i mean relegation is always on their minds but sometimes u think they gotta give ppl a break 🤷‍♀️ anyway, scott phelan looks like a decent interim coach tho 👍 fingers crossed he can turn things around 🔴👏

omg this news is so crazy 😱 i feel bad for brian sørensen tho he did a great job with the team last season 🤗 but apparently 3 wins in a row dont guarantee anything 💔 everton is literally on the edge of relegation now and they cant afford to lose any more games 🙅‍♂️ scott phelan seems like a good choice tho 🤞 he worked with the u23s and has some experience under his belt 📈 fingers crossed he can turn things around for them 🔥

I don't know about this Everton Women's Team sacking their manager... sounds like a classic case of panic buying 🤔. I mean, they're already in relegation danger and now they're changing managers again? What's next, bringing in some AI coach to try and make them win? 😂 I just don't think that's the answer. They need to take a step back, regroup, and figure out what went wrong in the first place. It's all about short-term thinking with these manager changes...

🤔 omg can't believe evilton sacked brian sorenson already!!! 🙄 they gotta do somethin diff or they're gonna be relegated lolol and now scott phelan is comin in?? 🤷‍♀️ he's a decent coach i guess but come on evilton u need more than just 1 manager 2 change ur luck 🤑 but i gotta admit his youth setup skills r pretty fire 🔥 and that goalkeeping coach guy icm is literally the best 🙌 so lets see if phelan can turn it around!!! 💪

I'm not sure about this move... 🤔 Everton just got rid of their manager after 2 seasons and now they're bringing in someone who's never managed a women's team before. I think they need to rethink their strategy, like

+ Current team performance
- Recent results
- Upcoming games

Maybe Scott Phelan can bring some fresh ideas and help them turn things around? But what if he's too inexperienced for the job? 🤷‍♀️ We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out... 🔍

Man, I feel for Brian Sørensen, you know? The guy gets the job in 2022 and they're already sacking him now? It's like, what did he do wrong?! 😒 He had some decent results, yeah, but it's not like he was expected to win the Champions League or anything. And to be fair, that one win at home this weekend wasn't enough to keep him in the job... I mean, I get it, Everton's gotta try something new and all, but still... 😔 What's the point of having a good team if you're just gonna stick with the same old tactics and hope for the best? 🤷‍♂️ At least Scott Phelan's got some decent experience under his belt, so fingers crossed he can turn this thing around. ⚽
