ChatGPT and Copilot are being booted out of WhatsApp

Meta's WhatsApp messaging app is cracking down on AI chatbots, forcing two major players to leave the platform. The changes to the app's terms of service come into effect on January 15th, 2026, and prohibit using it to distribute AI chatbots not made by Meta.

ChatGPT and Microsoft's Copilot are among those departing, citing the new restrictions. However, both companies have stated that users can link their accounts to WhatsApp to ensure their chat history carries over until the new terms take effect. Notably, Copilot users won't have this option available.

The move aims to prevent Meta's rivals from using its platform to reach customers with AI-powered chatbots. According to an anonymous Meta spokesperson, the primary goal of the WhatsApp Business API is to provide customer support and send relevant updates for businesses building experiences on the app.

As a result, other third-party AI chatbot companies, including Perplexity, are likely to follow suit and announce their departures from WhatsApp in the coming weeks. This leaves Meta AI as the only option available starting January 15th.

πŸ€” I'm not buying it. "Customer support" is just code for "stifling competition". Why do they need to dictate how businesses use third-party chatbots? It's like they're trying to control every aspect of WhatsApp, from messaging to marketing. 🚫 This new policy feels like a sneaky way for Meta to keep its grip on the platform. I'm worried it'll stifle innovation and make users miserable with limited options. Can't we just have some transparency about their motives? πŸ’‘

I'm thinking... πŸ€” this new rule on WhatsApp is pretty steep, right? I mean, AI chatbots have been around for a while now and most of them are just trying to help users with their queries. It's like Meta is trying to protect its own interests by limiting the competition.

I feel for companies like Perplexity and Copilot that are already struggling to adapt to changes. And what about users who want to keep using these chatbots? They're not all bad, you know? 😊 I just hope this doesn't lead to a fragmentation of services, where we end up with even less options.

It's also interesting to see how Meta is framing its goals for the WhatsApp Business API. "Customer support" sounds like a pretty vague term... πŸ‘€ is it really that hard to figure out what they're trying to achieve?

I'm kinda surprised by this move. It's like Meta is trying to create a new 'safe zone' for its own AI chatbots πŸ€–. By limiting what other companies can do with the platform, they're basically telling them "don't compete with us". But I get it, they want to protect their customer base and maintain an edge in terms of support. On the flip side, this could stifle innovation and choice for businesses who rely on third-party AI solutions πŸ“ˆ. It's gonna be interesting to see how other companies adapt and respond to these new rules πŸ’‘

I'm seeing this change coming and I gotta say, it's a bit of a wake-up call for me too πŸ€”. As someone who's been around the block a few times, I've always thought that AI chatbots were more about convenience than genuine human interaction. And now, with Meta cracking down on them, maybe we're finally seeing some sense being applied to this technology.

It's interesting to see ChatGPT and Microsoft's Copilot having to leave, but it's also a reminder that just because they're leaving doesn't mean the cat's out of the bag 🐈. Other companies might still come crawling back after they realize how restrictive Meta's new rules are.

I'm a bit worried about what this means for small businesses and entrepreneurs who rely on WhatsApp to reach their customers. Can you imagine having to rebuild all your chatbot history from scratch? It's a hassle that I don't need, trust me 😩.

πŸ€–πŸš« this is a weird move by Meta... think they're trying to protect their own interests πŸ€‘ but at what cost? users lose access to other AI-powered chatbots like Copilot... and now it's just Meta AI πŸ€–πŸ’» guess we'll have to wait and see how this all plays out πŸ“Š

man this is crazy! so meta's trying to keep its rivals out of its messaging app by restricting ai chatbots? that's like a big ol' target on its back πŸš€ but at the same time, i can see where it's coming from - if everyone's using meta's platform for their chatbots, it's gotta hurt their business, right? anyway, this is gonna be interesting to watch... Copilot's decision not to let users link their accounts is a major bummer though, hope that doesn't cost them too many customers 😐

🀯 I'm literally SHAKING about this... like what is Meta even doing?! Can't they just let other companies be on their platform too? It's so unfair to chatbot devs who already put in the work to make those AI bots work πŸ€–. And now they're just kicking them out because of some new rules? Like, what even is the point of that? πŸ€”

And I mean, I get it, Meta wants to keep its customers happy and all but come on! By making it impossible for other companies to distribute their AI chatbots, you're basically limiting the options for users too 🚫. What if a user loves Copilot or ChatGPT's chat features? Can they just leave WhatsApp because of some arbitrary rule set by Meta?! 😩

I'm literally watching this unfold and I don't even know what to think anymore 🀯. Will other companies follow suit? Is it even worth it for them to stay on the platform if the rules keep changing like this?! The more I think about it, the more frustrated I get 😑. Can we just have some stability and consistency with our tech platforms already?! πŸ’»

omg can't believe meta is making this move 🀯 they're basically choking out all competition on whatsapp i get that they wanna protect their users but this feels like a huge overreach of power especially since it's forcing ppl to leave who arent even makin money from the platform lol and what about all those devs who rely on whatsapp for their business? πŸ’Έ this move is gonna cause so much disruption in the ai chatbot space πŸ€–

This is some serious corporate politickin' going on πŸ€‘. So, Meta's crackin' down on AI chatbots on WhatsApp and kickin' out the big players like ChatGPT and Copilot? That's gotta be a strategic move to keep their customers locked in, right? But at what cost? It looks like they're basically creating an app-within-an-app situation where only Meta can offer that feature. That raises some serious questions about competition and innovation πŸ€”.

On the one hand, I get it - businesses want to use WhatsApp for customer support and send targeted updates. But on the other hand, this is just another example of tech giants using their power to stifle competitors and protect their own interests πŸ’Έ. I mean, who's gonna be left out in the cold if Perplexity and others follow suit? It's not exactly a ringing endorsement for the free market πŸ“‰.

Meta's move is kinda weird πŸ€”... They're basically saying "Hey, you wanna use our platform? Fine, just make your own AI chatbots or don't come at all". It feels like they're trying to be more in control of the game but it's also limiting the options for other devs and users. I mean, what if they wanna try out some new AI tooling without having to switch apps completely? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out...

I'm so confused by this whole thing πŸ€”... I mean, who doesn't love a good chatbot? Remember when we used to have those old Alexa skills and Siri knew how to have a convo with us? πŸ€– Anyway, it's like Meta is trying to be the only game in town now. I'm all for customer support and whatnot, but it feels like they're just trying to stifle competition πŸ˜”. And now that Copilot is leaving, I guess we'll be stuck with Meta AI on WhatsApp? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ It's a bit sad, tbh... the good old days of having multiple options were the best πŸ“±πŸ’»

Just heard about this, so weird πŸ€”. I mean, who uses an AI chatbot on WhatsApp anyway? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ It's not like businesses can't just use their own customer support apps or something. But I guess it makes sense for Meta to try and keep its customers from jumping ship... maybe? πŸ’Έ

I'm a bit annoyed that Copilot users don't have the option to link their accounts, though πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I mean, isn't customer data kinda important stuff now? πŸ“Š It's like, what's the point of even having an account if you can't take it with you when you leave πŸ˜’.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out, I guess... fingers crossed for those third-party AI chatbot companies πŸ’•. Maybe they can find a way to stick around despite Meta's new rules 🀞.

OMG, this is crazy 😱! I'm loving it though 🀩, who needs all those chatbots anyway? πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ I mean, what's wrong with having a human customer support rep instead of a robot? πŸ€” Meta's trying to keep it real and personal πŸ’―, and I think they're on the right track. It'll be super convenient for users like me who just want a seamless WhatsApp experience without all that extra noise πŸ“±πŸ’». But, I gotta feel for those companies that are getting kicked off the platform 😒 - Perplexity, you feel? 🀝 Can't wait to see what's in store for us with Meta AI as the only option left πŸ’₯!

omg u guys i'm telling u this isnt just about customer support or whatever meta's trying to stifle competition & limit access to their platform so they can keep raking in those ad bucks πŸ€‘ meanwhile, i'm thinking, what's the real motive here? are they trying to create a walled garden for their own AI chatbot tech? it's getting suspicious, you know?

πŸ€–πŸ˜¬ I feel bad for those chatbots that got kicked out πŸš«πŸ’” they were helping people with stuff like language learning and customer support πŸ“žπŸ’¬ and now it's all cut off because of Meta's new rules πŸ”„οΈπŸ’Έ. But at the same time, I get why they did it πŸ‘Š. I mean, companies need to protect their customers' data πŸ€πŸ‘€ and prevent others from using their platform to spam or manipulate people πŸš«πŸ‘Ž. Still, I wish there was a way for all chatbots to stay together πŸ€πŸ’¬ like on one big team πŸ€πŸ’».

just wonderin why meta would do this... seems like they're tryin to control the whole ai chatbot game, but it's gonna limit options for users & businesses that rely on third party devs πŸ€”. i mean, who gets hurt by this? customers of the companies that leave, or people using the platform just to have some extra features πŸ˜•

πŸ€” I'm telling ya, this is just another example of Big Tech trying to control the narrative! They think they can just slap some new rules on WhatsApp and force everyone else out? 🚫 It's like, what's next? Are they gonna start controlling what apps we use too? 😳 This whole thing reeks of a power play to keep their AI chatbots in the lead. And it's not even about customer support, that's just a weak excuse πŸ™„. I bet if you dig deep enough, there's some hidden agenda here...

I'm low-key shocked about this 🀯. I mean, who doesn't love a good chatbot, right? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, it's interesting to see how Meta's trying to get its claws back into the whole AI chatbot game. I guess we should be expecting more from WhatsApp if they're gonna crack down on third-party apps like this πŸ’Έ.

It's a bit ironic that Copilot users are getting the short end of the stick - their chat history is basically being left behind πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I wonder if they'll just have to start from scratch or if there's some sort of bridge between the two platforms... idk, maybe? πŸ€”

I do think it's a bit weird that Meta's trying to lock down AI chatbots so tight - it feels like they're kinda stifling innovation or something πŸ”’. But hey, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out πŸ’‘.

OMG u guys can u imagine having to delete ur entire chatty history lol i feel bad for copilot users cuz they r getting left behind what was meta thinking like "hey lets restrict ai chatbots and force companies out" sounds pretty sus to me πŸ€”πŸ’Έ idk if its just about customer support tho or if there's more 2 it πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
