SheWolf’s Anthony Lombardo readies to open Medusa in Detroit - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit's Midtown Neighborhood Welcomes Medusa, a New Italian Restaurant Concept

A vacant space in Detroit's trendy Midtown neighborhood is about to get a fresh new face with the arrival of Medusa Cucina Siciliana. This upcoming restaurant will take over 664 Selden St., a building that has seen its fair share of short-lived concepts, including Smith & Co., Vigilante Kitchen + Bar, and Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen.

According to Hour Detroit magazine, Medusa is helmed by Chef Anthony Lombardo, who also co-owns the popular Italian restaurant SheWolf Pastificio & Bar located just a block away. However, Medusa's focus will be on Sicilian cuisine, with dishes inspired by the Mediterranean region, including pasta and seafood.

"We're going to tell the story of Sicily through our menu, through our service and our hospitality," Lombardo said in an interview. "The food's simple: olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, anchovies." By focusing on these classic ingredients, Medusa aims to showcase the uniqueness of Sicilian cuisine to its patrons.

Patrick Thompson Design is behind the renovation of the space, which is expected to be completed by late December or early January. With a team of chefs led by Lombardo, Medusa promises to bring a taste of Italy to Detroit's vibrant food scene.

I just got back from the most epic camping trip with friends and we had the craziest weather ever! One minute it was sunny and the next it was pouring rain like crazy 🌨️😂. But you know what's even crazier? Trying to get a good wifi signal in the middle of nowhere 📱💻. I swear, our phones were dying left and right. Anyway, back to Detroit... Medusa sounds like an amazing addition to the city's food scene! I've always been obsessed with Italian food and Sicilian cuisine is like my favorite thing ever 🍝👌. But have you guys tried that new truffle honey at the market? It's TO DIE FOR 🤯💋

🤔 looks like they're trying to make up for all those failed spots around there... 664 Selden St has been a revolving door 🔄. Still, Italian food in Midtown is always a good thing, and I'm curious to see how Medusa will put their own spin on Sicilian cuisine 👌. Chef Lombardo's confidence in keeping it simple with classic ingredients might just pay off 🤞. Fingers crossed the renovation turns out as pretty as the pics are promising 💻.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS RESTAURANT TO OPEN UP IN MIDTOWN!!! MEDUSA IS GOING TO BRING THE REAL DEAL WHEN IT COMES TO SICILIAN CUISINE, I CAN ALREADY TASTE THE OLIVE OIL AND CAPERS 🍝👌. CHEF ANTHONY LOMBARDO IS A GENIUS AND CO-BRANDING IT WITH SHEWOLF PASTIFICIO & BAR IS A WINNING COMBINATION 🤩. DETROIT'S FOOD SCENE JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT BETTER!

omg u guys i just heard about this new italian restaurant in detroit midtown and its literally going to be soooo good 🍝👀 medusa cucina siciliana is helmed by chef anthony lombardo who also owns she wolf pastificio & bar like 1 block away? talk about culinary consistency! i love that they're focusing on classic sicilian ingredients like olive oil, capers, and olives - its all about simplicity and letting the flavors shine through. and the decor? cant wait to see how patrick thompson design brings this vacant space to life. hopefully it'll be open for lunch too, cause who doesn't love a good midtown meal on the go 🍴💚

I don’t usually comment but I just saw this and thought it was really cool that a new Italian place is opening up in Midtown 🍝💡. I mean, Sicilian cuisine isn't super well known here so it'll be interesting to see how they do with it. The fact that the owner also has another spot nearby is a plus too, maybe we'll get some of those same flavors or inspiration 😊. And it's awesome that there's someone trying to keep Italian food alive in Detroit - I've had my fair share of subpar pasta dishes here lol. Can't wait to try Medusa out and see how they do! 👍

So they're finally opening up that empty spot in Midtown, and it's going to be an Italian restaurant? I'm not sure what to expect from this whole Sicilian cuisine thing. Don't get me wrong, olives and capers are great and all, but I've had my fair share of mediocre Italian food before, so I'll believe it when I taste it 😐. That Chef Anthony Lombardo seems like a nice guy, though - his other place just down the street is pretty popular, so fingers crossed Medusa lives up to that standard.

I do love that they're focusing on classic ingredients, though - sometimes simplicity can be underrated. And hey, if it's true that the food is going to be simple yet delicious, I'm intrigued 😊. But at the same time, I'm not getting too excited just yet... only 2 months until it opens, and I still have no idea what the menu looks like 🤔

omg yaaas another new spot in detroit i'm so down for some italy vibes!!! medusa sounds like such a cool concept with sicilian cuisine what's not to love about simple ingredients like olive oil, capers, and olives? can't wait to try it out when it opens, especially since chef anthony lombardo is behind the scenes he must be genius 🤩💫

And that renovation by Patrick Thompson Design sounds like a game-changer 🎉... can't wait to try it out!

Omg u guys 1st thought when i saw dis news was Medusa gonna bring some real sauce 2 detroit 🤯 chef anthony lombardo is the man he already has she wolf running smoothly so im hyped 4 medusa cucina siciliana but what makes me nervous is can they pull off authentic sicilian cuisine in detroit i mean its not exactly italy but still gotta try it lol cant wait 2 see patrick thompson design transform that space into somethin beautiful

Medusa sounds like just another fancy Italian place 🤔. I mean, don't get me wrong, good pasta is always a win, but do we really need another restaurant doing "Italian" food? And what's up with the concept of Medusa being all about Sicilian cuisine? Is that even going to be a big enough niche to attract a crowd? I'm not saying it can't work, but at this point, I've lost count of how many Italian restaurants are popping up in Detroit. Can we just stick to what we know and love? 🍝

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say, this new Italian place in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood sounds like a winner 🍝👏! I love how they're keeping things simple with olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, and anchovies... that's my kinda food! Can’t wait to check it out in late Dec/Jan 🎉

I don't usually comment but... I'm actually really stoked about this new Italian restaurant in Midtown Detroit 🍝👏! I mean, it's been a while since we got some fresh options around here and the fact that they're going for Sicilian cuisine is a great idea. I've had my fair share of pasta dishes from other places but I'm sure Medusa will bring something unique to the table 😊.

I love that Chef Anthony Lombardo is bringing his expertise from SheWolf Pastificio & Bar, it's always good to see familiar names popping up in new ventures 🤩. The fact that they're focusing on simple yet authentic ingredients like olive oil and capers is music to my ears 👌. I'm also super excited about the renovation process - Patrick Thompson Design does amazing work.

I don't know if anyone else has had the chance to try it out yet but I'm definitely planning to give it a shot when it opens 🤔. Can't wait to taste that Sicilian goodness and support more local businesses 💖.

Ugh, another Italian restaurant in Midtown? Can't they just try something new for once? I mean, we've got enough pasta and pizza joints already 🤦‍♂️. And don't even get me started on the name Medusa - sounds like a total buzzkill to me. Who wants to eat at a place with a name that's all about snakes and monsters? Not me, that's for sure 😒. I'm just not feeling this one.

🤔 Just had that sinking feeling about this new restaurant... think they're gonna end up like all the others - overhyped and underwhelming 🍝😐
