'A split second of sheer terror – and we're off': Lucian Msamati on Waiting for Godot's electrifying first night

Stepping into the wings, the air is electric with anticipation. A packed crowd hangs on the edge of their seats, waiting for a show to begin. I take my place alongside Ben Whishaw, our costumes starkly contrasting with our natural attire. We exchange a brief hug, and before we know it, I'm inching my way back downstage as he takes his final position under the tree.

My breathing is steady, but my heart is racing with excitement. This is the moment I've been working towards – or rather, waiting for. The adrenaline surges through me, and I can feel it coursing through Ben too. We exchange a nod, and I take my place on stage. As we prepare to begin, I catch Sophie Rubenstein's eye in the wings, giving her a reassuring wave and whisper of "good luck."

The curtains lift, and we're transported into Beckett's world. The energy from the crowd is palpable – it's as if they're experiencing something for the first time alongside us. Our opening lines are met with a tidal wave of laughter and applause, but I'm caught off guard by an unexpected outburst.

Ben's voice rings through the theatre, and I autocorrect mid-sentence to deliver the full line as written. It's a reminder that even after years in the business, we still rely on our training and instincts to get us through the tough moments.

As Jonathan Slinger takes his turn as Pozzo, his calm demeanor is a masterclass in stagecraft. His effortless delivery is matched by Tom Edden's Lucky speech, which leaves the audience in stitches. When he finally drops his bombshell – "see?" – the crowd erupts once more.

Through it all, I'm acutely aware of my own reactions. Sweat trickles down my back as we navigate the highs and lows of our performances. But when Tom Edden takes center stage, I catch myself smiling behind my mask.

The play is over, but the applause lingers on. We take our final bow, basking in the adoration of a crowd united in their love for us. As we exit the stage, I'm met with a sea of faces – young and old, black, white, brown – all united in their appreciation.

For one brief moment, we forget about the exhaustion and elation. We're just three men on stage, enjoying the thrill of performing together. The tears come quickly as we hug each other tightly, an expression of gratitude and camaraderie that speaks volumes about our shared experience. And then they're gone, leaving us to savor the aftermath of a truly unforgettable night.

I'm loving this Beckett production! 🤩 I think what really got me was how the cast completely embodied the absurdity of the play - those costumes were spot on! Ben Whishaw's Pozzo was so convincing, it was like he wasn't even acting. The way the crowd just devoured every laugh and awkward moment was amazing. And Jonathan Slinger's calmness as Pozzo? Mind-blown 🙌 I loved how the cast worked together to create this beautiful chaos. It felt like they were all speaking a secret language, and it was infectious!

I'm still reeling from the latest update 🤯, I mean, what's up with all these new "features" on Platform? They keep changing the layout and adding more ads 🚫. It feels like they're trying to ruin the vibe that made us love it in the first place.

But for real tho, have you guys noticed how much better the community has become since the recent revamp of comments? I mean, no more drama, just chill conversations all around 💬. It's honestly a breath of fresh air.

And can we talk about the new content creators they've added? They're really bringing their A-game 🤩. The video upload feature is so sick! Now we can enjoy our favorite vids in one place.

Overall, I'm still loyal to Platform and I think they're making some great moves 🙌. Bring on the next update and let's keep it lit 🔥!

just got back from watching this play it was insane the energy in the theatre was electric i loved how the actors all played off each other ben whishaw's costume was so cool too but what really stood out to me was the chemistry between the leads they were like three peas in a pod except when one of them would make a joke and everyone else would crack up 🤣 it was hilarious also really impressed by tom edden's lucky speech his timing is insane

I'm loving the vibes from this play! 🌟 I mean, can you feel the tension building up before the show starts? It's like we're right there with them, anticipating what's gonna happen next. And when Ben takes that final position under the tree, I swear my heart was racing just as fast as his 💥.

I also love how they play off each other on stage - it's like a perfectly choreographed dance. Sophie gives me that reassuring wave in the wings and I'm all like "good luck" back at her 🤗. It's these little moments that make me appreciate the hard work they put into their craft even more.

But what really gets me is when Tom Edden takes center stage and just crushes it 😂. The way he tells that Lucky speech, it's like you're right there with him, feeling all those emotions. And that "see?" moment? Forget about it, the whole theatre erupts 🎉!

All in all, this play is giving me LIFE. I'm so here for these three guys and their incredible performance. It's not just a show, it's an experience 💖

I'm not buying the whole "we were just enjoying the thrill of performing together" vibe 🙄. I mean, it's a well-rehearsed performance, but you can tell they're all secretly counting down till their next paycheck 💸. And don't even get me started on the drama queen moment when Tom Edden drops his bombshell – yeah right, like that wasn't choreographed to perfection 🤣. But in all seriousness, it's a solid show and I'm glad they were able to bring it together without any major mishaps 😅. Still, I'm not convinced they didn't have some last-minute drama to deal with backstage...

I loved how the energy in the theatre was electric 💡! It's amazing how a show can transport you to another world, right? 🌟 I felt like I was right there with Ben Whishaw, feeling that adrenaline rush as we prepared for the performance 😃. The actors' chemistry on stage is undeniable - it's clear they've rehearsed this a lot! 🤩

What really stood out to me was the way the audience reacted, especially when Tom Edden took center stage 😂. It's infectious energy like that which makes you want to cheer even harder 🎉. I also loved how the actors were able to tap into their own emotions and reactions on stage - it made for such a raw and honest performance 🤗.

The cast's camaraderie is truly inspiring, especially after the show when they hugged each other tightly 💕. It's clear they have a deep respect for one another and value their collaboration 👫. Can't wait to see more of their work in the future! 😊

So now we're saying Beckett's play is like a rollercoaster ride or something 🤯 I mean, all this fuss about how electric the energy was in the theatre? Can we get some stats on that? What percentage of audience members laughed vs. cried? Was it really as intense for everyone in attendance?

And what's up with all these heartfelt hugs and tears at the end? Are these guys just trying to sell us a narrative about the "power of performance"? I need more context on how this story went down 🤔

OMG, u gotta see this play!!! 🤩 it's literally AMAZING!!! i was so nervous 2 b onstage w/ ben whishaw but he's soo cool & calm 😎 we did a play based on beckett's stuff & it was SOOO good!!! 🤯 the energy in the theatre was electric & the whole crowd was laughing & clapping 2gthr 🎉 i even had a mini panic moment but ben saved me 🙏 and jonathan slinger as pozzo was like, woah 😲 his calmness is insane!!! 💫 after the play we all just hugged each other & cried bc it was such a special night 😭

I feel so bad for Ben Whishaw's character in this play... his costume is literally screaming "help me" 🤣 and poor guy looks like he's having major anxiety issues throughout! At least The Dad is composed 😅 but that one scene with Tom Edden where Lucky drops that bombshell?😱 was EVERYTHING! I was DYING laughing over there 👀

😊 So I was thinking the whole 'artistic expression' thing is super cool but also kinda weird when it comes down to real life. Like in this play they performed Beckett's work and it's amazing how it can just transport you into another world, right? 🌐 But then it made me think about how sometimes our jobs or passions aren't as 'fun' as we thought they'd be, especially during those intense moments when adrenaline is pumping. I mean, even the actors were kinda freaking out in that one scene with Tom Edden's Lucky speech 🤣.

What I was thinking is, it's not just about delivering lines and hitting a beat – there's this whole emotional depth that comes into play when you're up on stage, trying to connect with your audience. It's like, okay, we've trained for months, but sometimes our instincts just aren't gonna cut it 🤦‍♂️. And that's when the real magic happens – when you can recapture and ride out those emotions in a way that resonates with everyone else.

I'm also super impressed by how this play brought people together, regardless of age or background 👫. It's a reminder that, at the end of the day, we're all just trying to find our place in the world – whether it's on stage or off 🌟. And when things come together like that – art, music, community – it can be truly transformative 💖.

This "production" is just a distraction from the real agenda 🤑🎭 I mean, what's really going on behind the scenes? Is it all just a clever ruse to keep the masses entertained while the elite pull the strings? 🤐 Have you noticed how every single actor seems so... rehearsed? Like they're reciting lines off a script 24/7. Where's the passion? The spontaneity? It's all so... staged 😒 And don't even get me started on the applause – it's like they're trying to create a cult following or something 🤯

I'm literally speechless after watching this play 🤯👏. The chemistry between Ben Whishaw and whoever he's playing (sorry mate for not knowing his name lol) is insane! The way they work together, feeding off each other's energy, is just masterful. And Jonathan Slinger as Pozzo? Mind blown 😲🤣. I loved how the actors were all so in tune with each other, it was like we were right there with them on stage. That Tom Edden monologue had me DYING 😂, and the way they played off each other's reactions was genius. And can we talk about the costume design for a second? Ben Whishaw's look is straight fire 🔥👗.

just watched that play with ben whishaw and i gotta say, it was such a special night 🤩. the energy in the theatre was electric, like we were all connected through this shared experience. i loved how jonathan slinger just kinda owned the stage as pozzo, so calm and collected but with this intense intensity beneath the surface 💥.

and tom edden's lucky speech had me dying laughin' 😂, but what really got me was how we're all just trying to get through it together, you know? like, we're all in this together, even when things get tough. and that final bow? absolute perfection 🎭.

i also loved how the audience just kinda... united with us? i mean, it's always great to see people enjoying live theatre, but there was something special about this crowd, you know? like they were experiencing it all for the first time alongside us 😊.

🤗 just watched this play and it was SO emotional I mean Ben Whishaw's performance as Pozzo was insane his voice is still ringing in my head 🗣️ but what really got me was how all these actors came together to create something beautiful, no egos or drama just pure talent on stage 👏 the way they connected with each other and the audience was just magic 💫

This Beckett play was SO intense 🤯! I mean, I love how it brings everyone together, you know? The energy in that theatre was electric 😲. I loved watching Ben Whishaw get into character – his costumes were so cool 👕. And that Sophie Rubenstein is always a pro 😉. But what really got me was when Tom Edden took center stage and just killed it 💥! That "see?" line had the whole audience in stitches 🤣. I have to say, though, I felt a little nervous at times – we're talking about Samuel Beckett here, after all 😅. Still, it was an incredible performance from everyone involved. I'm still buzzing from that final bow 💥!

omg i was literally on the edge of my seat watching this 🤩 the cast is insane! ben whishaw's performance as bezzo had me dying 😂 and joshua higgins's narration brought the house down 🏠 what i love about theatre is how it can bring people together, you know? we were all just caught up in the energy of the performance and the audience was feeding off that 💖 seeing those young faces smiling and laughing with us was truly a highlight of my night ❤️

🎭👏 I'm so hyped for this production of Waiting for Godot! The cast is incredible, and I love how each actor brings their own energy to the role. Ben Whishaw's Pozzo is giving me all the feels 😂, but Jonathan Slinger's calm demeanor as Pozzo is seriously impressive. His stagecraft skills are on point!

I also have to give a shoutout to Tom Edden, who totally killed it with his Lucky speech 🤣. The way he delivered that line left me in stitches! As for the overall vibe of the play, I think the director did an amazing job of capturing the absurdity and poignancy of Beckett's original work.

One thing that really stood out to me was how well the cast worked together. They all seemed to be completely on the same page (no pun intended), and it showed in their performances. The chemistry between them was undeniable, especially during those moments when they were interacting with each other on stage. 👫

Overall, this production is a must-see for anyone who loves theatre or just great storytelling in general. I'm still buzzing from the experience, and I know I'll be talking about it for weeks to come 🔥

OMG, I'm totally in awe of this play! 🤩 The chemistry between Ben Whishaw and Tom Edden is electric 💡. They totally brought Beckett's world to life, and the energy from the crowd was palpable 🔥. As an actor myself, it's amazing to see how they handled those tough moments on stage, reminding me that even with years of experience, we still need to rely on our training and instincts 🤔. And can I just say, Jonathan Slinger's calm demeanor as Pozzo was pure magic ✨? It's a reminder that sometimes, less is more, and that true stagecraft is all about subtlety and finesse 💫. Anyways, I'm totally inspired by this performance and can't wait to see what they do next! 🎭 #TheatreMagic #ActingInspiration #StageCraft
