Austin Butler to play Lance Armstrong in big-screen biopic

Austin Butler to Star in Biopic About Controversial Cyclist Lance Armstrong.

A biopic centered around infamous cyclist Lance Armstrong is moving forward with Oscar-nominated actor Austin Butler set to play the lead role. The project, which has sparked a "frenzied" bidding war in Hollywood, will be directed by Edward Berger and written by Zach Baylin.

According to sources close to production, Scott Stuber, who recently worked on Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, has secured Armstrong's life rights for the film. While Armstrong will be involved in the project, he won't have a producing credit.

The film is expected to blend the high-stakes world of professional cycling with the dark underbelly of corruption and scandal that surrounded Armstrong during his career. With Brad Pitt's success at the box office with racing drama F1, there are hopes for this new biopic to follow suit.

Armstrong's story is one of great contrast - an international sports sensation who won the Tour de France a record seven times between 1998 and 2005, but was later stripped of his titles after it was revealed he had doped during that period. The 2012 investigation into Armstrong's past ultimately led to him being banned for life from professional cycling.

This biopic will not be the first time Armstrong's story has been told on screen; Stephen Frears' 2015 drama, also called The Program, explored his downfall with Ben Foster in the lead role. However, that film received mixed reviews and was a box office disappointment.

With Butler's recent success in Elvis, he is well-positioned to take on this new project, which will see him star alongside an ensemble cast of up-and-coming actors. Berger, who made waves after directing Conclave, has been involved in several high-profile projects recently, including the Netflix drama Ballad of a Small Player and Brad Pitt's upcoming adaptation of Tim Winton's The Riders.

As for Baylin, his credits include Oscar-nominated scripts like King Richard, as well as Creed III, Gran Turismo, Bob Marley: One Love, and the recent Netflix series Black Rabbit.

omg u gotta think about lance armstrongs story tho - he was literally a cheater on steroids but still managed to win 7 tour de frances!!! its wild how his downfall happened but also kinda sad cuz the guy wasnt even a normal person anymore, all that doping and lying made him completely unrecognizable from who he was before... i dunno maybe but u can tell this biopic is gonna be a wild ride

I'm tellin' ya πŸ€”, this biopic is gonna be a total cover-up job! Think about it, Armstrong's story is already a big ol' mess with all that doping scandal and whatnot. But do they really need to make another film about it? It just seems like the powers that be want to cash in on his notoriety without really delving into the truth. And Austin Butler's gonna play him? Dude's got some serious 'tude going on 😏, I hope he can bring some depth to the character.

And what's with Scott Stuber getting Armstrong's life rights for the film? That just reeks of a big ol' deal πŸ€‘. It's like they're trying to control the narrative or something. And let's not forget about Edward Berger and Zach Baylin, they've both got some pretty shady connections too πŸ‘€. I'm gonna keep an eye on this one, that's for sure...

I'm really curious about this new biopic, but I gotta say, it's a bit weird that they're making a film out of Lance Armstrong's story again πŸ€”πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ. Like, wasn't there already one 10 years ago? πŸ™„ And what's with the whole 'high-stakes world' thing? It sounds like just another sports drama to me πŸ†. But hey, if Austin Butler can pull it off like he did in Elvis, maybe this will be different 😐. I'm still not sure if I'd want to watch a film about someone who's basically a cheating sports legend πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Can't we just focus on athletes who are actually heroes? πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ

I'm thinking this biopic is gonna be a wild ride... I mean, Lance Armstrong's story is pretty crazy - from winning all those Tour de France titles to being stripped of everything due to doping scandals πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ. And now Austin Butler's gonna bring it all to life on screen. I'm curious about the direction (no pun intended) Edward Berger will take this project, but with Zach Baylin writing and Scott Stuber securing Armstrong's life rights, I think we're in for a compelling story πŸŽ₯.

The casting is also interesting - Austin Butler's proven his acting chops in Elvis, and pairing him with an ensemble cast of up-and-coming actors could work really well. But what's gonna make this film stand out from other biopics? Is it the dark underbelly of corruption and scandal that Armstrong was involved in, or is it something else entirely? I'm excited to see how this one plays out πŸ€”πŸŽ¬

OMG, can you believe it?! 😲 They're doing a biopic on Lance Armstrong already?! Like, I know his story is crazy intense, but it's still kinda wild that they're making another one 🀯. Austin Butler's going to be amazing as him, no doubt! He has such range and charisma πŸ’ͺ. And Brad Pitt's racing drama F1 did pretty well at the box office, so maybe this biopic will follow suit πŸ“ˆ. But what I'm really curious about is how they're gonna approach Armstrong's... complicated history πŸ€”. The dude was a total rockstar on the track, but he got stripped of everything due to doping scandals 😳. It's like, his story has so much contrast - winning and losing, fame and shame πŸ‘€. I'm excited to see how this biopic will balance those two sides...

πŸ€” This film sounds super intense, I'm curious to see how they'll portray Armstrong's story πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ. It's crazy to think about him winning seven Tour de France titles & then being stripped of them all because of doping scandals πŸ’”. Butler looks like a solid choice for the lead role, he's already proven his acting chops in Elvis πŸ’ͺ. I'm hoping this biopic will do justice to Armstrong's complex story & shed some light on the dark side of professional sports πŸ“Ί.

I'm not sure if I'd wanna watch a biopic about Lance Armstrong πŸ€”...I mean, yeah he was an awesome cyclist and all but the doping thing kinda ruins it for me 🚫. And what's with all the drama around his life? It seems like there's always some new scandal or controversy surrounding him πŸ’Έ. But I guess if Austin Butler can make it work, who am I to judge πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ? He was pretty great in Elvis πŸ‘... maybe he can bring some magic to this role too ✨.

I'm not sure if I'm hyped or skeptical about this new biopic on Lance Armstrong... πŸ€” The guy's story is pretty wild - all that fame and success followed by a major scandal that ruined his career. It's like, what did he do? You feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, he was basically cheating his way to the top.

I love Austin Butler as an actor, though - he showed his range in Elvis and I think he'd bring some depth to this role. The director and writers seem solid too, so fingers crossed that the film will do justice to Armstrong's story. But let's be real, it's a tough sell for a movie about a guy who got caught doping... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Still, you never know, maybe it'll surprise everyone and turn out great!

I'm thinking Austin Butler is gonna bring some depth to this biopic about Lance Armstrong πŸ€”. I mean, he's already shown his range in Elvis, you know? The way he portrays Elvis in that film was so intense and emotional πŸ’₯. And now, taking on a character like Lance Armstrong, who had such a huge scandal surrounding him... it's gonna be interesting to see how Butler brings out the complexity of the guy πŸ€–. Maybe we'll get to see some of the darker sides of Armstrong, like the doping allegations, but also his redemption arc or whatever πŸ˜’. It'll be cool to watch how he balances that.

Austin Butler is lowkey a genius πŸ€“. I mean, he just came out of nowhere with Elvis and now he's got his sights set on this crazy intense biopic about Lance Armstrong? The guy's got talent pouring outta every pore 🌟. And let's be real, the material he's gonna work with is just begging to be explored - from the highs of winning Tour de France titles to the depths of doping scandals and subsequent downfall. It's like a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions and it sounds like Butler's ready to take on the challenge 🎒. The cast looks solid too, what with Berger at the helm and Baylin bringing that Oscar buzz πŸ’₯. I'm curious to see how this whole thing plays out - I think we're in for a wild ride πŸš€!

this is so fishy 🎣, you think a biopic about lance armstrong is gonna come out without some kinda controversy? i mean, what's next? are they gonna make a movie about frank abagnale Jr.? or maybe a prequel to expose the secrets of his identity theft days? and what about the whole "life rights" thing? scott stuber just so happens to get armstrong's rights for the film... sounds like some kinda setup πŸ€‘.

I'm so hyped about this biopic!!! Austin Butler is gonna bring Lance Armstrong to life in such a deep way I can already imagine him crushing it on screen 🀩πŸ’₯ The way they're going all out with the casting and crew is giving me LIFE! Edward Berger's direction is gonna be SO intense, especially with that dark underbelly of corruption and scandal - I'm here for the drama πŸ”ͺοΈπŸ’” And can we talk about how iconic it'll be to see Austin Butler rocking that Tour de France look? πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ I need this movie now!!

Austin Butler's gonna play Lance Armstrong... think this is a weird move, he was so great in Elvis, but I'm not sure he's ready for all that drama in Armstrong's life πŸ€”β€β™‚οΈ. The film's gonna be intense, I get it, Armstrong's story is wild, from his rise to cycling superstar to the scandal that brought him down πŸ’₯. But can Butler really handle the complexity of it all? And how much will this biopic change our perception of Armstrong? The 2015 drama already didn't do great at the box office πŸ“‰, so I'm curious if this one will be different...

I don't get why they gotta make a biopic about Lance Armstrong again πŸ€”. I mean, we already had The Program in 2015 and it was just...meh 😐. And now Austin Butler is gonna play him? I'm not sure if he's the right guy for the job. I think they should've gone with someone who actually knows how to act instead of just having a good face πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And what's up with Scott Stuber getting Armstrong's life rights without any credit for it? That seems super sketchy 😳. I hope this film doesn't get greenlit and we have another epic flop on our hands πŸš¨πŸ’”.

I'm so hyped about this new biopic on Lance Armstrong! πŸŽ₯ Austin Butler is going to bring so much depth to the role, I just know he'll nail it. The film's going to be a wild ride, exploring the dark side of Armstrong's career and how his doping scandal derailed his life. It's crazy to think about how one mistake can have such devastating consequences. The fact that there was already a biopic on him back in 2015 didn't exactly set the box office ablaze, so I'm hoping this new take will be more of a success. With Berger and Baylin at the helm, I've got high hopes for this project! 😊

idk why anyone would wanna make a biopic about lance armstrong, dude was a total cheater πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. i mean, he's already done that whole "i'm a hero" shtick in his interviews and all, so what's the point of revisiting it? and now austin butler is gonna play him? great, just what we need, more fake smiles and pretend humility πŸ™„. it'll probably be some watered-down drama that glosses over all the doping and corruption, instead focusing on his "turbulent" personal life or whatever πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. ugh, can't wait for this trainwreck to hit theaters πŸ˜’

I'm all about exposing the truth, you know? Lance Armstrong's story is a wild ride of deception & redemption πŸ€”. I think it's dope that they're gonna tackle this complex tale with Austin Butler at the helm – he showed his range in 'Elvis' πŸ’₯. It's crazy how far we've come since the 2012 scandal, and now we've got Hollywood wanna-be stars diving into Armstrong's world πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. But seriously, it's about time we see this side of the story on a bigger stage. I'm hyped to see how they'll weave all the corruption & scandals together – fingers crossed for an honest, unfiltered look at the dark underbelly of professional cycling πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ

lol what a wild ride lance armstrongs life is gonna make for a biopic idk if anyone can do justice to his crazy story but i think austin butler could bring some depth to the role maybe they should get ben foster in a cameo tho idc why he even makes this biopic worth watching though?

can u believe this? lance armstrong's story is so wild 🀯 he was basically a hero to some ppl & a cheater 2 others but i think austen butler is gonna bring the drama & make it fascinating to watch πŸŽ₯‍♂️ even w/ all the controversy, his story has got some amazing highs & lows so yeah, i'm hyped for dis biopic!
