Australia news live: Sussan Ley calls Labor's hate law reforms 'unsalvageable' as Penny Wong criticises Coalition 'hypocrisy'

I'm concerned about how these reforms are gonna impact online activism in Aus. Like, if they're really tough on hate speech, it could stifle some important conversations and marginalized voices from getting their message out 🤔. And with the Greens trying to amend the bill to protect free speech... it's all kinda muddy at the moment 📝. The fact that Sussan Ley is calling for more time suggests she's not totally on board, which is interesting 👀. I'm hoping they can find a balance between keeping people safe and preserving our right to express ourselves online 💻.

🤔 So I'm thinkin', it's a no-brainer right? We gotta take action after a terror attack like that. But at the same time, you've got to be careful not to overstep and infringe on people's freedoms. It's like that old saying - with great power comes great responsibility 😊.

The government's tryin' to balance that out, I get it. They're havin' a proper consultation process and all that jazz 📝. But the opposition's also got a point, right? We don't wanna rush into somethin' without thinkin' it through thoroughly. It's like, let's take our time, have a good hard look at this bill, and make sure we're not gonna end up with somethin' that's gonna backfire 🚨.

I reckon the Greens are onto somethin' there with their amendments, too. We do need to protect freedom of expression, even when it gets uncomfortable or unpopular 💬. And I love how Labor's on board with this common sense approach - let's just get on with it and make sure we're makin' Australia a safer place for everyone 🌟.

Anyway, it's all gonna be interestin' to watch how this plays out in the coming days 📊. Fingers crossed they can find that sweet spot between security and freedom 💕!

I'm so worried about how fast the gov's moving on this hate speech thing. They're literally saying it's necessary to rush everything because of one attack... like, we can't just make laws that infringe on our rights without careful consideration? The Greens are right to be scrutinizing this closely and I hope they do amend the bill to protect free speech 🤔💡. It feels like the gov is just trying to cover their own backs rather than actually making meaningful change. We need more transparency and consultation with communities, not less 💬👥

idk why ppl are so quick 2 judge albo on this hate speech bill 🤔. i mean its true the gov's moving fast, but like, whats wrong with being proactive? we cant just sit back & do nothing while ppl get hurt by hate speech & gun violence 🚫👊. personally think its a good idea 2 have stricter laws around hate speech, dont know about guns tho 🤷‍♂️. anyway hope the gov gets some good feedback from ppl & can make it happen without too much drama 💬
