Bears Coach Ben Johnson is Keeping Quiet on Cornerbacks' Return
Coach Ben Johnson of the Chicago Bears will have to wait a bit longer for his answer on whether cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon are coming off injured reserve for Friday's game against the Eagles. When asked directly, Johnson responded with a casual "We'll know soon enough."
Both Johnsons were full participants in practice on Wednesday, but Tyrique Stevenson, who has been nursing a hip injury, remained out of action. C.J. Gardner-Johnson might have inadvertently hinted that Gordon would get a chance to shine if he's activated this week, as the Eagles' receiving corps is considered one of the best.
Johnson suffered an adductor muscle tear in July and had surgery for a separate groin injury in Week 2. On the other hand, Gordon has played just two games so far this season due to hamstring and calf injuries that put him on injured reserve after their first game together.
In other news, it appears Theo Benedet may not be getting his starting left tackle job back immediately, as he practiced in full on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the trio of T.J. Edwards (hand/hamstring), Ruben Hyppolite II (shoulder), and Noah Sewell (elbow) are still out with injuries.
The Bears' injury report has also seen a few changes, including defensive tackle Gervon Dexter being added to the list due to a hand injury. Guard Luke Newman and defensive end Dominique Robinson remain out due to foot and concussion issues respectively.
Lastly, Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith is nursing an illness-related absence along with shoulder and chest injuries that prevented him from practicing on Wednesday.
