Chris Hemsworth and dad fight Alzheimer’s with a trip down memory lane

Chris Hemsworth and his father, Craig, have embarked on a poignant journey to confront Alzheimer's disease head-on. The National Geographic documentary "A Road Trip to Remember" follows their 3,000-mile motorcycle trip to the Northern Territory of Australia, where they revisited memories from Chris' childhood.

The trip was sparked by Craig's recent diagnosis with early-onset Alzheimer's, and Chris wanted to create a film that would capture the emotional impact of this disease on his family. Director Tom Barbor-Might worked closely with Hemsworth to craft a narrative that balanced honesty with sensitivity, given the intimate nature of the subject matter.

The documentary features old photographs, home videos, and candid conversations between Chris and his father as they relive memories from their past. The trip was also an opportunity for Craig to reconnect with his community in Bulman, where he worked on a cattle station when Chris was young.

One of the key themes emerging from this experience is the importance of social connections in reducing the risk of dementia and slowing cognitive decline. Hemsworth himself has spoken about the benefits of reminiscence therapy, which involves revisiting past experiences to boost cognition.

"A Road Trip to Remember" premieres on November 23 on National Geographic, with the film also available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.

I'm so moved by this documentary, it's like they're shining a light on something that's way too important - the struggle of dealing with Alzheimer's disease 🌟. I think what really stands out is how much love and care Chris put into creating this film for his dad. It's beautiful to see them reconnecting over old memories, but also talking about the impact it has on their family life 💔.

I'm glad they're highlighting the importance of social connections in slowing down cognitive decline - we need more conversations like this happening! 🤝 I've heard that reminiscence therapy is actually really effective and I'd love to learn more about it. Anyone have any experience with it?

ugh, this is really beautiful 💕 I mean, I've been following Chris Hemsworth's journey on social media for years and it's so inspiring that he's using his platform to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease 🚲💨 My grandma had dementia and it was heartbreaking to see her struggling with memory loss... anyway, the fact that he's doing this road trip with his dad is just amazing ❤️ I hope it helps people understand how devastating it can be for families affected by this disease 💬

omg 🤯 this is so cool! i love how chris hemsworth is using his platform to raise awareness about alzheimers disease 🤝 and it's amazing that he's doing it with his dad by his side 💕 their journey on a motorcycle trip sounds like an incredible way to relive memories and create something special together 🚴‍♂️📹 i'm definitely going to watch this doc when it comes out, but isn't reminiscence therapy already proven to be effective? 🤔 how do you think social connections can reduce the risk of dementia? should we be encouraging more people to travel and meet new ppl as they get older? 🚀💬

Just watched a sneak peek of "A Road Trip to Remember" 🚴‍♂️💨 and I'm blown away! Chris Hemsworth's dedication to his dad's story is truly inspiring ❤️. The way he weaves memories, photos, and conversations into this documentary is pure magic ✨. It's amazing how they're shedding light on the importance of social connections in fighting dementia 🤝. I've been using a meditation app that uses reminiscence therapy for anxiety relief, it's life-changing 😌! Can't wait to watch the full doco and share my thoughts with the community 💬.

man i'm feeling really emotional just watching this 🤕 it's so beautiful how chris is using his platform to raise awareness about alzheimers disease and its impact on families 🙏 but what really got me thinking is how we can all use reminiscence therapy in our own lives, you know, revisit old memories with loved ones and just enjoy the moments 😊 it's not just about preserving the past but also about strengthening those social connections that matter so much for our mental health 💡

I'm not sure why Chris Hemsworth thought this was a good idea... I mean, he's got a dad who's just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and he decides to take him on a road trip to relive their childhood memories. It sounds like a really emotional experience for both of them, but also kinda weird? Like, what's the point of revisiting all these old memories if you're just gonna start forgetting stuff again anyway? 🤔 And is it really healthy for his dad to be on this trip right now, considering he's already dealing with this serious health issue? I don't know... I hope they get some good out of it, but I'm not holding my breath. 😐

OMG, this is soooo sweet 🤗... Chris Hemsworth's dad is getting Alzheimer's and he's making a docu about it? Like, I'm not sure if that's really noble or just a way for Chris to get some quality time with his old man 😂. But seriously, it's actually kinda cool that they're using their experience to raise awareness about social connections and reminiscence therapy - maybe it'll inspire people to actually do something about it 🤞. And honestly, I'd rather watch a documentary than some overhyped Marvel movie any day 🎥.

This documentary is so emotional 🤯. I love how Chris Hemsworth wanted to document his dad's experience with Alzheimer's, it's not often you see something like that showcased in such an intimate way. The fact that they used old photos, videos, and just had real conversations about their memories really made me feel connected to them. It's amazing how a trip can be so therapeutic for the both of them, I'm a huge fan of reminiscence therapy too, it's like a breath of fresh air for the mind 🌿.

OMG u guys! I'm literally SHOOK by Chris Hemsworth's new docu "A Road Trip to Remember" 💕😍 it's so beautiful how he took his dad on that road trip to deal with Alzheimer's disease head-on. I mean, can you imagine having a parent go thru that? 🤯 It gives me chills thinking about their convo's and reminiscing moments from childhood 📚👨‍👦 I love how the docu highlights the importance of social connections and reminiscence therapy in reducing dementia risk 🌟 it's like, so inspiring! And Disney+ has it streaming soon?! 🎉 I'm defo adding this to my watchlist ASAP 💯

I'm super skeptical about this documentary. Like, what's the real motive behind Chris Hemsworth wanting to make a film about his dad's Alzheimer's diagnosis? Is he just trying to be a good son or is it all about boosting his own cinematic resume? 🤔 And what's with the focus on social connections? I mean, isn't that like, basic human stuff everyone already knows? Can't they just, you know, hang out and talk like normal people instead of making a whole documentary about it? 😒

omg u guys, i'm literally so excited for this docu! 💥 it's like chris hemsworth is breaking down the barriers of what's considered 'cool' to talk about when it comes to his dad's health issues 🤗 my aunt has been dealing with dementia and it's such a huge burden on families... having chris share their journey could def help more ppl understand the impact of alzheimers 🚨 i love that they're highlighting the importance of social connections too! 🌟 reminiscence therapy is actually something my grandma swears by 😊 can't wait to watch this docu when it drops on november 23 📺🎥
