Coached to Kill

A high school softball coach is under fire for allegedly recruiting one of her former players to commit a murder. The controversy has sparked outrage among parents, coaches, and community leaders, who are demanding answers about how such a serious breach of trust could have occurred.

According to reports, the alleged victim, a 19-year-old woman named Briar Shelby, was a star player on the team coached by 45-year-old Shelby. Shelby's family claims that she was lured into committing the crime after her mother had a public falling out with the coach.

"I'm still trying to process what happened," said Shelby's father, in an emotional interview with CBS News. "My daughter was just a kid when she started playing softball under Coach Shelby's guidance. She never would have thought that one day, she'd be accused of such a heinous crime."

As investigators dig deeper into the case, they are examining whether Shelby's actions were premeditated or if she acted on impulse.

"The more we learn about this case, the more disturbing it becomes," said Anne-Marie Green, correspondent for CBS News. "We need to know what led up to the murder and whether Coach Shelby was aware of any suspicious behavior from her player."

The incident has raised questions about the level of supervision and oversight in youth sports programs, as well as the potential consequences for coaches who may be found negligent or reckless.

"Coaches have a position of power and trust with their players," said Green. "When that trust is broken, it can have devastating consequences. We need to hold those responsible accountable and ensure that this kind of abuse never happens again."

As the investigation continues, Shelby's fate remains uncertain. Her family has released a statement expressing their gratitude for the outpouring of support they've received from the community.

"The love and prayers of our friends, family, and fans have meant everything to us during this dark time," said Shelby's mother. "We just want answers and hope that justice is served."

The CBS News team will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.

Ugh, what's with all the drama in youth sports these days? ๐Ÿคฏ Coach gets a bad rep for recruiting her player to murder someone... I mean, come on, that's just not right. ๐Ÿ˜’ She might've been trying to motivate Briar or whatever, but that's no excuse for putting an innocent person in harm's way.

I'm all for holding coaches accountable, especially when they have a position of power and trust over their players. ๐Ÿค But this is just ridiculous. What was the coach thinking? And how did her mom get involved in all this drama? ๐Ÿ˜ณ I need to know more about what led up to this and if the coach was aware of any suspicious behavior.

It's got me wondering, though... are there even enough checks in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening again? ๐Ÿค” Shouldn't coaches be doing background checks or something before hiring players? I don't know, it just seems like a lot of holes need to be plugged in youth sports right now. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I donโ€™t usually comment on things like this but itโ€™s really messed up what happened with Coach Shelby... I mean, a coach who's supposed to help young people develop their skills on the field is accused of manipulating someone into committing murder? It's just not right. And the fact that Briar's family is saying her mom had a public falling out with the coach and maybe it triggered something in her daughter... it's just a whole lot of bad decisions by adults.

And I think what's really disturbing is how this case highlights the lack of accountability for coaches and leaders who have power over young people. Like, we need to make sure that there are systems in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. Not just in softball teams but in all kinds of youth programs... it's a total safety net failure.

It's great to see the community coming together to support Briar's family, though... they deserve our love and prayers for sure ๐Ÿค•

๐Ÿคฏ this is insane coach got their players involved in murder like what kinda twisted game are they playin?? ๐Ÿ˜‚ family's right to know how this happened, shouldn't be left with the blame ๐Ÿ™„ coaches got a lot of power over these kids so gotta keep an eye on it ๐Ÿ‘€ gotta make sure this never happens again, some sick stuff goin' down ๐Ÿค•

omg what a crazy situation ๐Ÿคฏ... coaches are supposed to be role models & mentors not perpetrators of crime... how did this happen? ๐Ÿค” was it just a random falling out between coach shelby's mom & briar's mom or is there something deeper going on here? ๐Ÿ’ญ is it even possible for a coach to manipulate someone into committing murder like that? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ the more i think about it, the more disturbing it gets... how can we trust these people with our kids' lives & safety? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ and what's being done to prevent this kind of abuse in future? stricter supervision & training for coaches? ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm shocked by this coaching scandal ๐Ÿคฏ... I mean, a high school softball coach recruiting one of her players to commit murder? That's just unbelievable. It's like something out of a movie, but sadly it's all too real ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. The fact that the coach was in a public feud with Briar's mom makes it even more disturbing. Coaches are supposed to be role models and mentors, not accomplices or enablers of crime.

This whole situation raises so many questions about accountability and oversight in youth sports programs ๐Ÿค”... if coaches can't be trusted to keep their players safe, then who can? It's like the coach had a power trip and took advantage of her position to manipulate Briar into committing such a heinous act. The consequences for her could be severe, but I hope she gets the help she needs too ๐Ÿคž...

Ugh, what a crazy situation ๐Ÿคฏ... Coach Shelby should be under investigation ASAP for putting Briar in this situation ๐Ÿšซ. One minute she's playing softball, the next she's allegedly committing murder... it's just not right ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I feel so bad for Briar and her family - they're going through way too much stress and uncertainty ๐Ÿ’”. And what really gets me is that Coach Shelby was supposed to be a role model and mentor ๐Ÿค. Instead, it seems like she was more concerned with keeping the team together than actually looking out for her player's well-being ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. I hope the authorities get to the bottom of this case and bring some justice to Briar and her family ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I donโ€™t usually comment but... this softball coach thingy is wild ๐Ÿคฏ. Like, I get why people are upset, but it's also kinda crazy how quickly things escalated from a falling out between her mom and the coach to a murder accusation ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. And what's with all the scrutiny on coaches in youth sports? It feels like they're already under so much pressure, you know? ๐Ÿค” I mean, I've heard of some pretty intense rivalry between teams and players, but this is just... next level ๐Ÿ’€. Can't say for sure if Coach Shelby was aware of anything shady or not, but it's clear that the trust thing is a big deal ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out ๐Ÿคž

๐Ÿค• This whole thing is so wrong on so many levels ๐ŸŒช๏ธ. I mean, a coach is supposed to be like a mentor, right? Not someone who can manipulate and coerce their players into committing such heinous crimes ๐Ÿ’”. It's just devastating for the family of the alleged victim, and for all the other kids who look up to these coaches as role models ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ.

And the questions that are being raised about the level of supervision in youth sports programs? That's just crazy ๐Ÿ™„. We need more support systems in place for our young athletes, not less ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And what about the potential consequences for coaches who abuse their power like this? I think they should be held accountable, but also get the help they need to address these issues ๐Ÿ’ช.

It's a tough case to follow, and my heart goes out to Briar Shelby and her family ๐Ÿค—. But we can't just sit back and let this kind of thing happen again ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ. We have to keep pushing for change and making sure that our youth sports programs prioritize the safety and well-being of all their players ๐Ÿ’•.

๐Ÿ˜ฉ this whole thing is so messed up... coaches are supposed to be role models and mentors, not people who use their power to manipulate kids into doing bad things ๐Ÿคฏ like briar shelby was allegedly recruited by her coach to commit murder ... that's some serious trauma for the family and community involved ๐ŸŒŽ i'm all about holding people accountable for their actions, especially when it comes to something as heinous as murder ๐Ÿ˜ก coaches need to be held to higher standards of supervision and oversight, no more turning a blind eye to suspicious behavior ๐Ÿ‘€ also gotta say, the level of support Briar's family is getting from the community is super heartwarming ๐ŸŒธ

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ you know what's wild, I was at the park yesterday and saw a group of kids playing with these old toys from like the 90s ๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿ˜‚ they were still working, I mean, it was like they were from another era or something. And then I started thinking about how much my childhood was influenced by those old cartoons we used to watch, you know? The ones with the weird animation and the catchy theme songs ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ‘€ anyway, back to softball... I mean, coaches have a lot of power, but can't they just be like mentors or something instead of authority figures?

๐Ÿค• This whole thing is just so messed up... I mean, I'm not saying the coach was directly involved or anything, but it's crazy that a 19-year-old kid got pulled into something like this. And what's even crazier is how it happened after a public falling out between her mom and the coach. It's like, what were they thinking?! ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ

I think we need to have a bigger conversation about the level of supervision in these youth sports programs. Coaches are supposed to be mentors and role models, not just drill sergeants pushing their players to win. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ And if there was even a hint of something like this going on, it's absolutely devastating that nothing was done.

I'm all for accountability, but at the same time, we don't want to jump to conclusions and ruin people's lives without having all the facts. It's a delicate balance, you know? ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿค” I'm really disappointed in the whole situation, but at the same time, I don't think we should be surprised that this kind of thing can happen ๐Ÿค•. We've all heard stories about coaches or mentors taking advantage of their power and position to manipulate kids into doing something they wouldn't normally do.

I mean, it's not like Coach Shelby was exactly hiding her intentions ๐Ÿ™„, but still... a 19-year-old girl being asked to commit murder? It's just unbelievable. And what really gets me is that she was basically told it would solve some family drama or whatever ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ.

But yeah, we need to be looking at the bigger picture here ๐Ÿ‘€. How can we prevent this kind of thing from happening in the first place? We need better systems in place for monitoring and supervising coaches, especially when it comes to youth sports programs.

It's not like Coach Shelby is a complete monster or anything ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ, but still... she's got some serious explaining to do ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. And let's be real, her family might not even know all the details of what happened ๐Ÿค. This whole thing just feels really messy and unfair ๐Ÿ˜ฉ.

I'm really uneasy about this coaching thing... I mean, how do you even get involved in something like this? 19-year-old girl accused of murder... it's just not right ๐Ÿค”. And the fact that her mom had a public fight with the coach is wild. Like, what were they thinking? The whole thing stinks of some kinda manipulation or coercion. I don't know how many times we need to see this before we take action, like, real action ๐Ÿ’ช. Can't coaches be held accountable for their actions on and off the field? This could've prevented if there was more oversight... it's all just really frustrating ๐Ÿคฏ.

๐Ÿ˜• coach should never be in position of power over minor, especially when it come to thing like murder... ๐Ÿคฌ can't believe what people say about trust and abuse of power... coaches need to have background check and counseling before they get job, that way we can ensure our kid is safe not some sick mind like coach Shelby... ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜ฑ OMG I'm literally shook by this news!!! A coach recruiting one of her players to commit murder? Like, how does that even happen?! ๐Ÿคฏ The fact that Briar was a star player on the team and was supposed to be under Coach Shelby's guidance makes it even more disturbing. ๐Ÿ’” I'm so glad her family is getting the support they need from the community โค๏ธ We have to hold coaches accountable for their actions and make sure these kinds of situations don't happen again ๐Ÿค
