Cowboys predicted to cut ties with All-Pro defender

Cowboys' Future Uncertain as Trevon Diggs's Contract Status Hangs in the Balance

The Dallas Cowboys have been written off by many after a disappointing 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday. With a 6-6-1 record, it's now or never for the team if they hope to secure a spot in the NFL playoffs. However, even if the Cowboys make it, their star cornerback Trevon Diggs is increasingly looking like he may not be with them for much longer.

While Diggs has three years and $57 million left on his contract, none of that money is guaranteed. In fact, releasing him would only cost the team around $5.88 million in dead money. ESPN's Dan Graziano notes that while it's still possible for Diggs to make a strong case to stay with the Cowboys, especially if he can show enough production over the remainder of the season, there's no guarantee.

Diggs has been struggling this season, failing to record a single pass defended or interception in six games. His overall game has declined significantly since his Pro Bowl years three years ago, when he was named to the team and had 21 passes defended and an NFL-high 11 interceptions. Despite being out for nearly two months due to injury, Diggs returned to practice this week but was ruled out of Thursday's game.

The Cowboys do have a talented young cornerback in DaRon Bland, who signed a four-year, $92 million contract extension in August. If this season is indeed the last for Diggs with the team, at least Bland will be ready to step in and provide some much-needed stability to the secondary. However, the loss of a player like Diggs would undoubtedly be felt, particularly if he were to leave as a free agent.

For now, it's unclear what the future holds for Diggs or the Cowboys' roster in general. As one loss can sometimes spark a season-long turnaround, the Cowboys will need to regroup and refocus if they hope to make a deep playoff run. But with the playoffs just around the corner, every game is a must-win – even for a team that was once predicted to be on the cusp of greatness.

omg i'm so confused about diggs' contract situation πŸ€”πŸ’Έ 5.88 million in dead money if they release him tho πŸ’° like what are the cowboys gonna do? i feel bad for fans who were hyped up about his return from injury πŸ˜” da ron bland is a solid replacement tho πŸ‘ hopefully he can step in and lead the secondary to victory 🏈

ugh i cant even right now about trevon diggs and the cowboys its like theyre playing with fire and dont even notice 😩 the guy has been strugglin all season and we all saw it comin but still it hurts seein him out there missin those ints he was supposed to be thier lockdown corner and now hes losin his grip πŸ€• da ron bland is lookin like a solid backup but its just not the same as havin diggs on that field im hopin for the best but somethin tells me this season is gonna end in tears πŸ’”

😬 I feel bad for Trevon Diggs, he's been through a tough time this season and it's hard not to feel like his best years are behind him πŸ€•. But at the same time, you gotta think about the bigger picture here - if they don't make a move soon, DaRon Bland is gonna be ready to step in and take over πŸ’ͺ. It's a bittersweet thought for Cowboys fans, but I guess that's just part of the game 🏈.

OMG, can you believe it?? Trevon Diggs's contract status is like, super uncertain rn 🀯 And yeah, he's not been his usual self this season πŸ˜” Like, 6 games without a pass defended or an interception? Not good for the Cowboys' hopes of making playoffs πŸ’” DaRon Bland is gonna be super key for them if Diggs does leave πŸ‘€ But honestly, it's still hard to see Diggs go... he was such a game-changer in his Pro Bowl years 🏈 Still got to watch & root for him though! 🀞

Omg πŸ€―πŸ’”, I'm literally dying over this πŸ˜‚! Trevon Diggs's contract status is so uncertain right now 🀝, and it's killing me πŸ’€! The Cowboys are already written off by many πŸ“‰, but they can still make a comeback πŸ”₯ if they play their cards right πŸ’‘. If he leaves in the offseason πŸ‘‹, DaRon Bland will be ready to shine πŸ’« and provide some much-needed stability to the secondary 🀝. Fingers crossed that Diggs stays with the team πŸ™!

omg can u believe it?? trevon diggs's contract status is like, hanging in the balance lol i feel like they have 2 options either cut him or let him go as a free agent and it would b crazy if he left cuz we all know how much he brings to the table but at the same time his game has declined so much since last season its like, what r the cowboys gonna do?? πŸ€―πŸ’” i hope they make a smart decision tho 🀞

omg i'm lowkey worried about Trevon Diggs πŸ€”πŸˆ if he leaves i feel like their secondary would be super weak πŸ’” but at the same time daRon Bland is lookin all ready 2 step in πŸ‘πŸ½ that 4yr contract extension was a good move by the cowboys lol i mean who wouldn't wanna sign up 2 be the backup corner with a big $$$ contract πŸ€‘ anyways gotta keep an eye on this situation tho πŸ”’

idk wut's goin on w/ cowboys rn lol πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ they need trevon diggs 4 real! hes got skills & all but somethin dont feel rite... 5.88 mil in dead money if he gets released? thats not even a big deal lol... da crew already got bland, who's gonna step in & fill his shoes? πŸ€” i no cowboys can bounce back, but right now its lookin like diggs is the one who's goin down πŸ‘‹

man i feel like trevon diggs has been struggling so much this season its crazy how quickly things can change in the nfl you go from being one of the best corners to basically irrelevant i think its sad for the cowboys since they invested so much in him but at the same time da'ron bland is a talented young player who could definitely step up and help the team out πŸ€”

πŸ€” so i'm thinkin', cowboys' roster is in shambles right now... like, no star player can guarantee their spot anymore πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ and it's gonna be hard for them to bounce back from this loss... trevon diggs hasn't been his usual self this season πŸˆπŸ‘Ž but you never know what can happen when people step up or change teams? πŸ’₯ meanwhile, daaron bland looks like a solid backup plan, fingers crossed he can live up to that contract extension πŸ€‘
