DIRECTV Expands Multiview Capabilities with Seven New Mix Channels
In a bid to enhance the viewing experience for its customers, DIRECTV has recently introduced seven new "Mix Channels" to its streaming platform. This latest offering allows users to stream up to four live television channels simultaneously from a single screen, making it an ideal option for sports enthusiasts who want to keep track of multiple games or families divided over different types of content.
The multiview experience is currently available on DIRECTV packages that include "Mix Channels," pre-curated channels based on genre and interests. Currently, users can access Sports Mix, which includes ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, and NBC Sports Now; a League Sports mix with MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, and NHL Network; News Mix with CNN, Fox News Channel, Fox Weather, and MSNBC; and Kids Mix with Disney Channel, Disney Jr., Disney XD, and Nickelodeon.
DIRECTV's Business Mix package also offers multiview channels, as well as a Locals Mix in select markets featuring ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. The Sunday Sports Mix allows users to watch live sports on CBS, FOX, ESPN, and FS1 simultaneously, all from the same screen. Users can choose to watch one of the pre-selected Mix Channels full-screen or switch between them.
The feature is available across most DIRECTV streaming packages, with some channels also included in select Genre Packs. However, availability varies based on service selection and only includes channels that are part of the user's package. The multiview experience is currently limited to television devices and not available on other platforms.
This latest development marks a significant expansion of DIRECTV's multiview capabilities, which has been a pioneer in this technology for over a decade. Having first introduced mix channels to its satellite TV subscribers back in 2008, the company has now brought this experience to its OTT service, allowing users to stream live TV over the internet without requiring a satellite dish or cable box.
In a statement on its blog, DIRECTV notes that the latest "next generation of mix channels" brings this technology fully to streaming, delivering curated, genre-based layouts and local channel mixes for even more ways to watch. Users can learn more about the multiview experience and explore the latest DIRECTV deals and offers at directv.com/affiliates/stream.
