Britain is bracing for another round of downpours as more than 200 active flood alerts have been issued across England and Wales. The Met Office has issued a fresh yellow warning for rain, which will cover parts of southern Wales and south-east and south-west England from noon to midnight on Monday.
Residents in affected areas can expect heavy rain showers with totals ranging from 10-15mm in some places, but up to 20-30mm in others where strong southeasterly winds are expected. Communities in these regions are still recovering from the extensive flooding caused by Storm Chandra last month, which left many homes and businesses waterlogged.
Flood warnings have been issued for over 200 locations across England, with a further 219 flood alerts in areas where flooding is possible. Meanwhile, Natural Resources Wales has added four more flood alerts to its list. The Environment Agency's latest update puts the number of flooded properties at around 300, while an estimated 16,200 homes are protected by flood defences.
The Met Office warns that travel disruption can be expected due to flooded roads and homes, especially during rush hour on Monday evening. Temperatures in some areas may rise into double figures, providing a relatively pleasant contrast to the rain-soaked conditions elsewhere. However, forecasters predict that heavy rain will fall on saturated ground, raising the risk of further flooding.
Residents are being advised to take precautions to protect themselves and their property from the impending downpours. With many areas still reeling from the aftermath of Storm Chandra, it's essential for those living in flood-prone regions to stay vigilant and prepared for another round of heavy rain.
