Fifty schoolchildren escape kidnappers in Nigeria, more than 250 remain captive

More than Fifty Nigerian Schoolchildren Escape Captors, But Over Two Hundred Remain Held Hostage.

Gunmen stormed a school in Niger State on Friday, kidnapping 303 children and 12 teachers. The assault was the latest example of how Islamist militants have exploited schools as targets for mass kidnappings.

Fifty pupils managed to escape their captors, with reports suggesting that they were released between Friday and Saturday. However, over two hundred students remain in captivity.

The Nigerian government has yet to issue a statement on the number of abducted children and teachers. The kidnapping is almost half the student population of 629 at St Mary's co-education school.

Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State, urged continued prayers for the rescue and safe return of the remaining victims.

Nigeria has struggled with a spate of mass kidnappings since nearly 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped from Chibok town more than a decade ago. Gunmen often target remote boarding schools where security is weak, making them easy prey.

The two recent abductions in Niger State and an attack on a church in the west of the country have sparked mounting fears over security. In response, US President Donald Trump has threatened military action against Nigeria to combat what he called Christian persecution by radical Islamists.

Meanwhile, Nigerian security forces reportedly rescued 38 people abducted during an attack at Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State. At least two were killed during the assault.

I mean I'm all for helping those kidnapped kids but US President Donald Trump is acting like a total lunatic 🀣. Who does he think he's gonna send troops to Nigeria? It's not like they're hiding under beds over here waiting for a rescue mission from America... like come on, have some respect for sovereignty, dude! πŸ˜‚

Ugh πŸ€•, another school taken over by these militant groups... can't believe how vulnerable our kids are in Nigeria right now. I mean, 303 kids and 12 teachers held hostage? That's just not acceptable! 😱 And what's with all these mass kidnappings? It feels like they're using schools as a way to make headlines instead of actually doing something productive.

And Trump threatening military action? 🀯 Like that's going to solve anything. We need actual solutions, not just empty threats. And Reverend Yohanna is right, continued prayers and all that... but we also need concrete actions from the government and security forces. Can't they do better than this? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ This is getting out of hand...

omg this is soooo disturbing another school attacked and all those kids taken away its like they just take over a playground 🀯🚫 nigerian gov is being super quiet about it too, shouldnt they be all over this ASAP? 200+ kids are still held hostage, that's like 2 schools worth of students πŸ“šπŸ˜© US prez trump thinks he can just threaten military action like that, doesnt he know how its gonna affect the situation? nigeria needs to take care of this ASAP, not some foreign leader πŸ’ͺ🏽

Ugh, my heart sinks every time I see news about school kidnappings πŸ€•. I mean, what's going on with these groups? Can't they just leave the kids alone?! 😩 The fact that 50 of them managed to escape is amazing, but it's still so heartbreaking to think about those 200+ kids left behind πŸ™.

And what's with the US President making threats over here? I get that he's trying to address the issue, but threatening military action isn't going to make things better πŸ’”. It just creates more tension and uncertainty for innocent people.

I wish our security forces in Nigeria could do a better job of protecting these schools 🀞. We need more support and resources to keep these places safe. And we need to think about the long-term solutions, not just temporary fixes πŸ”₯.

I'm literally shaken by this news 😱. Can you imagine walking into school and never coming out? It's just so wrong that these kids are being held captive like they're just some kind of commodities 🀯. I mean, schools are supposed to be safe spaces for learning and growth, not places where people get kidnapped.

And what really gets me is the stats - 303 kids taken from one school alone! That's half the student population or something 😲. It's like they just got picked out of thin air. And the fact that there are over two hundred still held hostage is just heartbreaking πŸ’”. The Nigerian government needs to do so much better in terms of security and protecting its citizens.

It's also crazy how this has happened again and again, especially with these remote boarding schools being targeted πŸ€”. Can't we just find a way to keep these kids safe? I'm literally worried about what might happen next 😬.

omg I'm literally shaking thinking about those poor kids πŸ€•πŸ˜± its just not right that they're still holding so many of them captive 😩 I feel like we're never going to see any progress on this unless more action is taken ASAP πŸ’ͺ my heart goes out to the families of the kids who were able to escape, can only imagine how traumatic that must be for them 🀯 and to think its not even been a week since all these kids went missing 😩😱 does anyone know what's being done to help the remaining victims? πŸ€”

can you believe how some ppl think a response to terrorism is military action πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ like they really think that's gonna solve anything? and what's up with all these school attacks lately? i mean, i know it's a huge problem in nigeria but can't we focus on getting kids back safely instead of just sending troops over? also, did u know that my aunt is actually from nigeria and she always says the roads are super rough there πŸš§πŸ’¨

πŸ€• my heart is breaking for these little souls, can't imagine how scary it must be for them to be held captive like this 😩. I mean we all know that Nigeria's been dealing with a lot of security issues but 303 kids taken from school? That's just heartbreaking πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. Hopefully those 50 who escaped will help guide the rescue efforts and get their friends and teachers back home soon πŸ™. We gotta keep thinking positive vibes for these kids and their families πŸ’–.

omg this is soooo sad πŸ€• i cant even handle thinking about all those innocent kids being held hostage it's like they just took them away from their families and lives...and to think the goverment isnt releasing any info on how many are left held captive its really scary 😱 like what if nobody knows who needs help πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ i hope these 50 kids that escaped are doing alright tho, thats some good news πŸ’• we gotta keep praying for the rest of them too ✝️ cant believe trump is threatening military action over this though...like what does that even solve ?? πŸ˜’

This kidnapping is a brutal reminder of how our collective sense of safety and security can be stripped away in an instant... πŸŒ‘πŸ˜± It's heartbreaking to think that 293 innocent children are still being held captive, their lives on hold as we watch and wait for news of their fate. What's even more disturbing is the lack of transparency from the Nigerian government - is this really how we're supposed to be treated? πŸ’” The fact that security forces were able to rescue 38 people from an attack in a church doesn't feel like enough comfort to ease our minds... πŸ€• I think what we need to do here is focus on ourselves, our own resilience and resourcefulness. How can we, as a community, support the families of these kidnapped children? How can we hold our governments accountable for keeping us safe? We may not be able to control external circumstances, but we can control how we respond to them... πŸ’ͺ

Ugh, can't believe this is still happening 🀯!!! Over 200 kids are just chillin' with some gun-toting militants and we're supposed to just sit back and wait for them to magically escape? Like what even is that?! 😩 The Nigerian government needs to get their act together and give us an update on the situation already! We need to know how many of those precious little lives are still at risk πŸ’”. And let's be real, this isn't just about the kids - it's about the schools themselves being used as targets for these heinous attacks 🚫. What can we even do?! It feels like the more we hear about these abductions, the more hopeless we become 😞. Can't someone please, PLEASE do something about this?!

omg 😱 this is so sad, how many kids are left?! πŸ€• 200+ kids still stuck, it's like they're just using schools as hostage centers πŸš«πŸ’£ and our leaders can't even tell us what's going on with numbers πŸ€” the Nigerian gov should really step up their act πŸ‘Š especially after all these years of Chibok kidnappings πŸ•°οΈ 300+ girls still not found πŸ™ and now this? it's like, what are we doing to stop this? πŸ’‘

This is just another example of how we should be investing our resources into protecting our children, not just sending troops to bomb a situation πŸ€•. I mean, think about it - 303 kids, and over half of them are still being held hostage. What's the point in fighting if we're not taking care of the people who need us most? It's like we're saying "our kids are worth more than our lives" πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. The government needs to step up their game and prioritize the safety of these children, not just throw money at it. We can't just be waiting for someone else to save them - we have to take responsibility for our own communities πŸ‘₯

Ugh, can you believe this?! 🀯 First it's Chibok, now Niger State... how many more schools gotta get hit before we do something?! πŸ€• I mean, 303 kids and 12 teachers taken from a school, what even is that?! 😱 And to think they were just trying to learn, you know? It's like, can't these militants see we're all human beings?! 🀝

I remember when I was in school, we had security guards at our school gates... it was so common back then! πŸ’ͺ Nowadays, it feels like anyone can just walk in and take kids... what's the world coming to, man?! 😩 It's almost as if they're using schools as a bargaining chip or something...

And now this US president is talking about military action? πŸ€” Like, dude, how are you gonna fix this with guns alone?! We need education, we need economic opportunities for these kids... we need to address the root cause of all this instability! πŸ’‘ It's not just about taking out the militants, it's about creating a better future for Nigeria!

πŸ€• Oh man, this is just heartbreaking... I mean, I was in school back in like '98 and we didn't even have to worry about gunmen showing up to grab us. It's crazy how much Nigeria has struggled with these kinds of attacks since Chibok all those years ago. 303 kids taken away? That's just... *shakes head* And only 50 managed to escape? What would you want your parents to say if they knew their little one was still out there somewhere?

And now Donald Trump is threatening military action? I don't think that's gonna help, mate. Just more chaos and whatnot. The Nigerian government should really focus on getting these kids back safe and sound instead of resorting to all that.

πŸ€• this is so sad, you can imagine a school full of kids, 200+ still trapped in some kind of nightmare... it's like a bad movie πŸŽ₯
i was thinking, if we had to pick a number that represents these missing kids, maybe something less than 300? but nope, it's 303 🀯. that's 3 times the amount of girls kidnapped from chibok in 2014... and what's with this 'Christian persecution' thing? isn't everyone entitled to freedom & safety? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
anyway, i drew a little diagram to help visualize the numbers:
```
+-----------------------+
| 303 |
| kidnapped students |
+-----------------------+
|
|
v
+-----------------------+
| 50 escaped |
| remaining in captivity|
+-----------------------+
```
it's still hard to wrap my head around it all, but i'm sending thoughts and prayers for those affected πŸ•ŠοΈ

omg this is heartbreaking πŸ€•... but let's try to focus on the positives! 50 kids managed to escape which means they're already on their way to freedom πŸš€... and we know that help is on its way, Nigerian security forces are doing their best to rescue them.

also, it's crazy to think that almost half of the student population at St Mary's school was kidnapped 🀯... but I'm hoping that this incident will bring some much-needed attention to the need for better school security in Nigeria πŸ’ͺ

and have you seen the number of people who were rescued from the church attack? 38 people are now safe and sound! πŸ™ let's not forget about them. and btw, US President Trump's threats might actually lead to more security measures being put in place to prevent these kinds of attacks 🚫... so fingers crossed for that too.
