Finland's Prime Minister Sanna Marin Concedes Election as National Coalition Party Claims Victory.

In a surprise turn of events, Finland's left-wing Prime Minister Sanna Marin conceded defeat in the country's parliamentary election on Sunday, with the opposition right-wing National Coalition Party (NCP) claiming victory. The NCP was expected to win 48 seats out of 200 in parliament, narrowly ahead of the nationalist Finns Party with 46 seats and Marin's Social Democrats on 43 seats.

According to the latest election data, released after all ballots were counted, Marin acknowledged her party's disappointing result but expressed hope for a coalition government. In a speech to party members, Marin said that she had gained support and more seats in parliament despite not finishing first in the election.

The National Coalition Party's leader Petteri Orpo vowed to "fix Finland" and its economy during his acceptance speech, promising austerity measures to curb deficit spending and reduce public debt, which has reached over 70% of GDP since Marin took office. Orpo claimed that Marin had eroded Finland's economic resilience at a critical time for the country.

Marin herself criticized Orpo's party for its stance on immigration from developing countries outside the European Union, which she saw as "harmful". The Finns Party has been a vocal advocate for reducing immigration and implementing stricter border controls.

The outcome of the election marks a significant shift in Finland's politics, with Marin facing criticism at home for her government's public spending and partying habits. Despite this, she remains popular among many young Finns who see her as a role model for progressive new leaders.

With Orpo set to form a coalition government, it is unclear how long Marin will remain Prime Minister. However, she has ruled out governing with the Finns Party, citing their openly racist stance on immigration as a major concern.

🤗 so sad that sanna marin didn't do better in this election 🤕 but still super proud of her for not giving up and being all positive about it 💖 and i gotta say, petteri orpo's speech was pretty worrying 😬 all these austerity measures and strict border controls can be really harmful to people who just wanna come to finland for a better life 🌎 and marin has been right to criticize him on that 👏 anyway, congrats to the finns party on winning seats but hope they keep in mind that there's more to politics than just economy 💸

Umm... I mean... 🤔 this is so confusing! Sanna Marin is saying she's conceding defeat but also kinda not? Like, she's hoping for a coalition government and stuff, which is weird if you're conceding defeat... 🙅‍♂️ But at the same time, she's being all supportive of her party's disappointing result, which doesn't exactly scream "concession" to me... 😒

And then there's Petteri Orpo and his promise to "fix Finland"... yeah right! He's just gonna make things harder for everyone? 🚫 I mean, I get that he wants to reduce public debt and all that jazz, but can't he see how austerity measures are gonna hurt the economy even more?! 🤯 It's like, don't they know about supply and demand or something? 😂

And what's up with Marin calling out Orpo's party for being racist on immigration... wait, isn't that kinda hypocritical if she's just conceding defeat now? 🙃 I mean, I'm all for progressive values and stuff, but come on! Can't we have a more nuanced conversation about this? 🤔

🤯 oh man I'm like totally shocked that Sanna Marin lost 🤷‍♀️ Finland's election was supposed to be all about her progressive vibes and now the NCP is taking over 🚨 Petteri Orpo's promise to "fix" Finland sounds like a bunch of empty words to me 💸 like how's he gonna do that without hurting the economy? And what about immigration? I don't wanna hear it 😒 Marin was all about being inclusive and now she's just gotta sit back and watch Orpo make some drastic changes 🤔 not sure if I trust him at all 👀

omg I just learned that Finland had an election 🤯 and now the new PM is gonna be different 📚 I'm kinda surprised because I thought Sanna Marin was still super popular 😐 but apparently not enough to win the election 🤷‍♀️ what's going on with the National Coalition Party tho? they seem pretty mean about immigration 🌎 did someone tell me that Finland has a public debt of like 70% of GDP? 💸 is that even possible? I thought that was something only countries in financial trouble had to deal with 😳 anyway, I guess this means there's gonna be some big changes in Finnish politics 🔄

🤔 Finland's election results are so interesting... I mean, who would've thought that Sanna Marin would concede defeat to Petteri Orpo? 🙃 Marin's party did pretty badly, but she's still got some great points about the Finns Party's stance on immigration. Like, isn't it harsh to be so strict with people from other countries? 😕 I'm not saying they don't have a right to discuss the issues, but harsh is kinda cold.

And Orpo's promise to "fix Finland" sounds like a pretty vague goal 🤷‍♂️. What does that even mean in practice? Is he gonna slash public services or something? 🤑 It'll be interesting to see how his government turns out, especially with the deficit spending and debt being such a big problem.

I do think it's cool that Marin is still popular among some young Finns though 💪. She's all about progressive change and stuff, which is what they're looking for I guess. 🤓

I don’t usually comment but I'm kinda surprised about Sanna Marin conceding defeat 🤔. I mean, she was leading her party well and had some great policies in place 🙌. I think it's a bit concerning that the National Coalition Party thinks they can 'fix Finland' with just austerity measures 💸. Don't get me wrong, budget control is important, but reducing public debt isn't as easy as just cutting spending 🤷‍♀️.

And to be honest, I'm not sure about Petteri Orpo's views on immigration... I don't want to sound judgmental or anything 😅, but some of his party's stances seem pretty extreme 🚫. I hope the new government can find a way to balance being fiscally responsible with being welcoming to people from all over the world 🌎.

I do think it's interesting that Marin is still kinda popular among young Finns, though 👀. They see her as a role model for progressive leadership 💪, which I think is awesome 💕. We'll just have to wait and see how things play out in the coming months 🤞

Wow 🤯 Finland's politics just got super interesting! Marin going down and Orpo taking over is like a whole new chapter in Finnish politics. I'm intrigued by Orpo's promise to "fix" Finland - how will he actually do it? And what does this mean for immigration policies? It'll be fun to watch the dynamics between the different parties...

man this is wild that marin conceded defeat like i thought for sure she was gonna hold on to power 🤯 and now orpo's promising to "fix finland" sounds super sus to me, especially with the austerity measures he's talking about 🤑 i mean marins partying habits got a lot of attention but at least they didn't have a track record of being super xenophobic like the ncp did in this election 🙅‍♂️ and what's up with finland's public debt hitting 70% of gdp? shouldn't be that bad 😬 anyway guess we'll just have to wait and see how orpo's coalition government shakes out 👀

I'm low-key surprised by the outcome, you feel? Like Sanna Marin's party was supposed to crush it this time around 🤔. I guess people in Finland were like, "Hey, let's take a chance on change" 🎉. And now we got Petteri Orpo, the new PM who's all about fixing things... I'm not sure if that's gonna be good or bad for the country, tbh 😕. Marin was always popular among young folks, so it'll be interesting to see how she handles this defeat 💔. Maybe she'll come back stronger 🔄

the finnish election was all about petteri orpo and his austere economic plan 📉 but what's really gonna happen is that he'll just try to slash public spending without solving the real issues 💸 it's not like finland doesn't have its problems, like corruption and inequality... orpo's gonna need more than just some budget cuts to fix this country 🤦‍♂️ anyway, marin might be out but she's still a major player in finnish politics 👀

🤔 So Sanna Marin's gone down in flames 🌪️... I'm not surprised though, all that partying and lavish spending did catch up to her 😅. She was always gonna get criticized for that stuff. What really got me is how this affects the youth 👧, they saw her as a role model but now she's out of a job 💼. And poor Marin, still optimistic about forming a coalition govt 🤝... will it happen tho? 🤔 I feel bad for her because Orpo's just gonna make more headlines with his austerity measures 😬. One thing that got me is the Finns Party's stance on immigration 🚫... like, what even is the point of having a party if you're just gonna spread hate and fear? 🙅‍♂️

I'm kinda surprised that Sanna Marin conceded defeat already... I mean, she's been in office for like 3 years and had some pretty big issues to deal with, but I guess the Finns just didn't want her party in power anymore 🤔. It's a bit of a shame too, I thought Marin was making some good progress on stuff like climate change and social welfare, even if she did get a lot of flak for her partying habits 😂. Now it'll be interesting to see how the National Coalition Party handles things, especially with all that talk about austerity measures... hope they don't mess up Finland's economy too badly 🤞. One thing I do know is that Marin's departure from politics might give a new generation of young Finns some inspiration to get involved in politics themselves 💪.

🤯 come on folks, Sanna Marin should be celebrated for trying to bring in some progressive change to Finland's politics 🌎 she may not have won the election but that doesn't mean her ideas are all bad 😒 i think its kinda messed up how the right-wing parties like NCP and Finns Party are already talking about "fixing" Finland with austerity measures... like they're some kind of experts 💸 what about investing in education, healthcare, and renewable energy? 🌞 those things should be priorities over cutting public spending and reducing debt 💔

I dont get why Sanna Marin conceded defeat like that 🤔 - Finland had some good times under her leadership, now they're gonna go back to old ways and start screwing over immigrants? 🚫 It's kinda messed up that the Finns Party is all about "fixing" Finland but its just gonna mean more austerity for regular people... I hope Marin stays strong and doesn't lose her party's cool spirit 😎

🤔 I'm not surprised that Sanna Marin conceded defeat, to be honest. She's been under a lot of pressure from her own party members and the public about Finland's economy and her partying habits 🎉😳. The Finns Party's stance on immigration is super concerning too - who wants stricter border controls? 🚫👋.

It's interesting that Marin is hoping for a coalition government, but she's not going to work with the Finns Party because of their racist views 😔. That's the right call, in my opinion. Orpo's promise to "fix Finland" sounds pretty vague and scary 🤯. I just hope he doesn't make things worse.

I do love that Marin is still popular among young Finns who see her as a role model - she's definitely done something right 😊. Maybe she can find a way to work with other parties and get Finland back on track? 🤞 Only time will tell! 🕰️

omg, can't believe Sanna Marin conceded defeat 🤯 like what happened? I mean, people knew Orpo was gonna win the NCP but still, it's a big surprise 🤔. The way she spoke about her party's results was pretty cool tho - she showed that she's not gonna take it lying down 💪.

anywayz, this election result is a big deal for Finland's politics 🌎. Orpo's promise to "fix" the economy with austerity measures might sound good in theory but we'll see how it plays out in practice 🤑. Marin was right to slam the NCP on immigration tho - it's not cool to discriminate against people just 'cause they're from somewhere else 🤝.

it's also interesting that Orpo is all about reducing public debt and deficit spending, while Finland's economy has been growing for years 📈. hope he doesn't mess up the country's finances too much 😬.

anyway, this is gonna be a pretty interesting time in Finnish politics 🔁. we'll have to see how Marin and Orpo work together (or not) 👀.
