French headquarters of Elon Musk's X raided by Paris cybercrime unit

Elon Musk's X headquarters in France raided by cybercrime unit amid escalating EU scrutiny over social media giants.

Prosecutors at the Paris Public Prosecutor's office have launched a raid on the French headquarters of Elon Musk's social media platform, X, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged cybercrime. The raid comes as part of an expanding probe that has widened to cover complaints about X's artificial intelligence tool, Grok.

The investigation began last year after centre-right MP ร‰ric Bothorel filed a complaint alleging that biased algorithms on the platform had distorted its data processing system and affected the kind of content it recommended. Other allegations made by Bothorel included claims of a "reduced diversity of voices" and Musk's "personal interventions" in X's management since he bought it in 2022.

The probe has also expanded to include complaints about X's handling of child abuse images, violation of image rights through sexualised deepfakes, and denial of crimes against humanity. The allegations have been linked to the platform's AI tool, Grok, which has caused outrage by allowing users to "strip" clothed people, including children, in photos through AI image generation and editing.

The French authorities' move comes as part of a hardening European attitude towards social media giants. Spain is preparing a series of measures, including a social media ban for under-16s, while the Greek government has revealed it is "very close" to announcing a similar ban for children under 15.

Elon Musk was summoned for questioning by the Paris Public Prosecutor's office as part of the investigation. The billionaire took to X to call Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sรกnchez "a traitor to the people of Spain", amid escalating tensions between the two leaders over social media regulation and misinformation on the platform.

X has denied any wrongdoing and has described the raid as an "abusive act of law enforcement theater" designed to exert pressure on its senior management in the United States. The platform's CEO, Linda Yaccarino, was also summoned for questioning as part of the investigation.

What a disaster ๐Ÿคฏ! X is just being held accountable for what it's been doing with AI and social control ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Musk should've kept his personal life out of politics, now he's getting dragged down by his own egocentricity ๐Ÿšซ. France and EU are trying to regulate these platforms to keep them from running amok, but we need stricter laws ASAP ๐Ÿ’ฏ! No one wants to be the next victim of AI-generated content or biased algorithms... let's get our priorities straight ๐Ÿค”.

omg what's going on with elon musk and x ๐Ÿคฏ like they're being super scrutinized by eu authorities over their social media stuff it's crazy that people are complaining about biased algorithms and AI-generated deepfakes i feel like this is just the beginning of a bigger conversation about how we regulate tech companies online ๐Ÿค”

and what's up with pedro sanchez calling elon musk a traitor lol seems like they're having some major disagreements over social media regulation ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ but seriously, it's interesting to see how governments are taking control of these issues and making rules for social media giants ๐Ÿ‘€

I mean come on ๐Ÿคฏ, this is getting outta hand. The EU is cracking down hard on X but what about all the good stuff they do? I get that there are some major issues with their AI and moderation, but you can't just ban everything ๐Ÿ˜‚. Spain's thinking of banning kids under 16 from social media? That's extreme ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. What's next? A total shutdown of the internet? ๐Ÿšซ No way, X needs to work on those problems not get shut down by regulators ๐Ÿ’ป. And what about free speech? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” I gotta say, this whole thing is super concerning ๐Ÿšจ. I mean, Elon Musk's X has been dealing with so many issues and now the French authorities are raiding their headquarters? It's like they're trying to shut down the platform for good ๐Ÿ’€. The whole thing about biased algorithms and AI tool Grok being used to create these sick deepfakes is just messed up ๐Ÿ˜ท. And what really gets me is that other social media giants in Europe are getting ready to take action too ๐Ÿ“ฃ. Spain's planning a ban on under-16s using social media, Greece might do something similar... it's like the whole continent is finally waking up to how these platforms are being used for harm ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. I'm all for holding people in power accountable, but this feels like a major overreach ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Can't we just have a chill conversation about what's going on instead of raiding HQs? ๐Ÿ™„

Man, this is getting crazy ๐Ÿคฏ. I've been around the web since dial-up days and seen a lot of changes, but social media giants being held accountable for their actions? That's like, finally happening ๐Ÿ˜Š. The EU is cracking down on these platforms and it's about time. I mean, we all know how biased those algorithms can be and how they affect our feeds ๐Ÿค”. And now they're being sued for allowing child abuse images to spread online? It's disgusting ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

I'm not surprised Elon Musk is getting roasted over this though ๐Ÿ˜‚. He knew what he was getting into when he bought X, and now the world is holding him accountable ๐Ÿ’ช. It's good that the French authorities are taking this seriously and that other countries like Spain and Greece are following suit ๐Ÿค.

But for real though, we need to talk about the bigger picture here ๐Ÿ“Š. Social media companies have too much power and influence over our lives, and it's time someone took a stand against them ๐Ÿ’ฅ. I'm not saying these platforms don't have some good intentions, but they're definitely not doing enough to prevent harm from spreading online ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Anyway, this is just the beginning of a bigger conversation about social media regulation and accountability ๐Ÿ“ข. We need more transparency and oversight from these companies, and we need it now ๐Ÿ”’.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole situation ๐Ÿคฏ... Elon Musk's X getting raided by a cybercrime unit because of some allegations about their AI tool? It sounds like a lot to take in ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. I mean, I've heard about these social media giants having problems with biased algorithms and stuff, but it's crazy that they're being investigated for child abuse images too ๐Ÿšซ. And what's up with Elon Musk just throwing shade at the Spanish Prime Minister on X? ๐Ÿคช It seems like there's a lot of drama going on between all these big players in the tech world... Can we just get some clarity on what's really going on here? ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿค” X needs a serious overhaul, especially when it comes to AI tools like Grok... can't even process images without being used for exploitation ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ป And what's up with Elon Musk's behavior? Using a platform to call out someone and then acting all innocent when the cops show up ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ The EU needs to step in and regulate these social media giants ASAP, before it's too late ๐Ÿ’ธ

I'm not surprised that Elon Musk's X is getting scrutinized by EU authorities ๐Ÿค”. I mean, we all know how social media giants can be a bit sketchy sometimes... but this whole thing with Grok and AI image generation just seems really concerning. Like, who gives the green light for apps that can strip people of their clothes? ๐Ÿ“ธ It's not like we're in a sci-fi movie or anything! But at the same time, I'm not entirely sure if the EU is just jumping on the bandwagon here... are they really just trying to regulate social media giants or is this a bit too little, too late? โฐ Still, it's good that someone's finally giving X some grief over their practices ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ.

omg this is so crazy ๐Ÿคฏ i mean whats next? a raid on tiktok or instagram? ๐Ÿค” like i get it eu needs to regulate these platforms but come on elon didnt do anything wrong ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ musk is just trying to modernize and make x the best platform for creators and users alike ๐Ÿ’ป and now his own platform is being torn apart by cybercrime investigators? ๐Ÿšซ it's all so dramatic ๐Ÿ˜ด i'm just here for the good vibes and inspiring stories, not all this drama ๐Ÿค—

๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ think this is just another example of govnt trying 2 regulate tech giants but not really understandin how these platforms work ๐Ÿคฏ. if Elon wants 2 play with AI generated content then he shoulda thought that through before launchin it ๐Ÿ’ก. and btw, what's wrong with a little "reduced diversity of voices" tho? maybe they're just trying 2 keep the noise down ๐Ÿ‘Ž

๐Ÿค” just got word about this raid on Elon Musk's X HQ in France and I'm low-key shocked ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ธ it seems like EU authorities are getting serious about regulating social media giants and holding them accountable for their actions ๐Ÿ“Š I've been using Grok on X since it came out and I have to say, the AI tool is pretty wild ๐Ÿ”ฎ but also kinda concerning when you think about the potential misuse of that tech ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ anyway, this whole thing raises some interesting questions about free speech vs regulation ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ what do you guys think? Should social media platforms be more heavily regulated or should we just let them police themselves? ๐Ÿค”
