Gaethje batters Pimblett to win interim lightweight title at UFC 324

Justin Gaethje emerged victorious in a five-round war against Paddy Pimblett to claim the interim lightweight championship at UFC 324. The American's win marked an end to Pimblett's nine-fight winning streak, but Gaethje was quick to praise the Liverpool fighter's toughness and heart.

Gaethje's victory came after a back-and-forth battle that saw both fighters take turns landing heavy blows. Despite being bloodied and bruised, Pimblett continued to push forward, showcasing his resilience in defeat. "I know how tough I am," Pimblett said post-fight. "I don't need to prove it to anyone." Gaethje acknowledged Pimblett's toughness, saying he was a "dangerous kid" who gave him a run for his money.

The turning point of the fight came when Gaethje connected with a heavy left-handed punch in the opening round, which sent Pimblett crashing to the canvas. The American followed up with a flurry of ground strikes that forced Pimblett to scramble back to his feet.

As the rounds wore on, Gaethje began to assert his dominance, landing several heavy right hands that had Pimblett wobbling. Despite being down by a round, Pimblett refused to give up, but ultimately fell short in the end.

Gaethje's win sets him up for an undisputed title fight against Ilia Topuria, who stepped away from the bout earlier this year due to personal issues. The victory marked Gaethje's second interim lightweight championship of his career and cemented his status as one of the top lightweights in the UFC.

In the co-main event, Sean O'Malley earned a controversial unanimous decision victory over Song Yadong, while Waldo Cortes-Acosta knocked out Derrick Lewis in the second round. The women's division saw Natalia Silva defeat Rose Namajunas via unanimous decision, with Silva now poised to challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight title later this year.

The event also marked the announcement of Dominick Cruz as the first member of the UFC's 2026 Hall of Fame class.

I was just thinking about my cat, Luna, and how she loves playing with that little laser pointer thingy... anyway, Pimblett's toughness is super impressive, I mean, the guy gets beat up in the ring but he still keeps going? 🀣 I'm gonna have to look up some videos of him training or something. And omg, has anyone seen those cute puppy videos on TikTok lately? I need a break from MMA for now πŸ˜‚

Ugh, I'm still reelin' from that epic fight last night 🀯! Pimblett's toughness and heart are seriously admirable πŸ’ͺ, but man, Gaethje's skills just took it to another level 🌊! The way he connected with that opening left hook was pure magic ✨. And can we talk about how Gaethje stayed calm under pressure? The dude was gettin' pummeled and still managed to keep comin' forward πŸ’ͺπŸ’₯!

I love how Pimblett refused to give up, even when he was down by a round 🀯. It's clear he's got some serious grit πŸ’Ό. And that back-and-forth battle was insane 😲! I mean, who needs a boring fight when you can have a five-round war? πŸ”₯

But what really gets me excited is the implications for Gaethje's title shot against Topuria πŸ€”. This dude's got some serious momentum behind him, and if he takes down Topuria, watch out world! πŸ”Š The lightweight division just got a whole lot more interesting πŸ’₯.

And can we give it up for Sean O'Malley, who pulled off that crazy unanimous decision win over Song Yadong πŸŽ‰? And Waldo Cortes-Acosta's knockout of Lewis was insane 😲. These fighters are giving it their all and leaving everything in the Octagon πŸ’ͺ.

But what's really got me hyped is the announcement of Dominick Cruz joinin' the UFC Hall of Fame πŸ™Œ. This dude's a legend, and it's about time he gets the recognition he deserves πŸ‘. Can't wait to see who else joins him on that list in 2026 πŸ€”!

omg what a fight!!! 🀯 Gaethje vs Pimblett was like nothing I've ever seen before! that one punch in round 1 tho... 😲 it was like time slowed down, you could see the momentum change in an instant. and for real though, Pimblett's heart is insane πŸ’– he was literally covered in blood but still kept coming forward like a boss. Gaethje got robbed of not giving him a title shot on the spot lol idk what the judges were thinking with that unanimous decision πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ either way tho gaethje deserved it and now he's got his sights set on Topuria

idk why ppl are hype about gaethje winning... pimblett was actually the better fighter, he took that guy down and just wouldn't quit πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ even though he got beat by a lucky punch in round 1, he proved more heart & toughness throughout the whole fight πŸ’— meanwhile gaethje's win is basically just cuz pimblett choked out in the first round lol what's gonna make his next fight vs topuria any different? πŸ€”πŸ˜΄

I'm telling you, something fishy went down in that fight πŸ€”. Pimblett was absolutely relentless, giving it his all till the end. But Gaethje just seemed to find his rhythm in the later rounds... too easily? πŸ˜’ That turning point punch looked almost... scripted? I mean, how do you know exactly where your opponent is gonna go at that exact moment? 🀯 It's like they had a plan... or something. And let's not forget about the whole co-main event - O'Malley's win was straight-up dodgy. I'm all for a good comeback story, but... 😏 Anyway, Dominick Cruz in the Hall of Fame? That's just weird. He retired ages ago and then comes back out of nowhere. What's his angle? πŸ€‘

OMG 🀯 Gaethje is like a total rockstar right now!! I mean, Pimblett put up one heck of a fight and showed some serious grit πŸ’ͺ. It was defo a back-and-forth battle and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time 😱. I'm not surprised he won, though - Gaethje's been looking fierce in his last few fights πŸ”„. And btw, what's up with Pimblett saying he's tough? Like, he knows that already πŸ™„? But for real, it's awesome to see these fighters give it their all and push each other to be better πŸ’₯.

omg what a fight !! πŸ₯ŠπŸ‘ Gaethje is so strong & resilient, I love how he gave props to Pimblett for his toughness ❀️ #TeamGaethje #UFC324 πŸ’₯ Gaethje's win was a team effort tho, can't forget the coaches & corner crew who helped him get ready πŸ™Œ Now let's see what happens next with Gaethje vs Topuria, it's gonna be EPIC πŸ”₯ #GaneVsGaethje #LightweightShowdown

Man, I'm lovin' Gaethje's attitude 🀩 after that win! The way he gave Pimblett props for being tough and hearted is really admirable πŸ’ͺ. I mean, you gotta respect a fighter who doesn't need to prove their skills to anyone - that's what it means to be a true warrior πŸ’₯. And can we talk about the turning point in the fight? That left-handed punch in the first round was a game-changer πŸ₯Š! Gaethje's dominance in the later rounds was impressive, and I love how he didn't get complacent - kept bringing the heat πŸ”₯. Now, let's see if he can take down Ilia Topuria...

Love how Gaethje just gave props to Pimblett for being a tough dude 🀝🏽, that's real talk! You gotta respect the heart and grit, even if you don't get the win πŸ₯Š. I'm hyped for Gaethje's next fight against Topuria tho, this guy's been on fire πŸ”₯! And congrats to O'Malley on the W, though some people are still salty about that decision πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Cortes-Acosta's knockout of Lewis was insane 😲, and Silva's flyweight title chase is gonna be so much fun πŸŽ‰πŸ‘€

man πŸ€” i gotta say gaethje got lucky lol he was getting destroyed by pimblett but somehow managed to pull it off πŸ˜… what's up with that guy's chin tho? like, shouldn't he be out cold after all those shots πŸ₯Š and o'malley's win was so questionable i mean song looked like he was winning that whole fight 10-8 not sure how sean managed to sneak in that 10-9 round πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ anyway, congrats to gaethje on the win but also gotta give it up for pimblett's heart and toughness - the dude never gave up πŸ’―
