Hundreds of volunteers fan out across San Francisco on Thanksgiving hoping to give back

🙏 It's heartwarming to see people from all walks of life coming together to serve others in need on Thanksgiving Day. The sense of community and connection among volunteers is truly remarkable. By providing essential food and a sense of hope, these volunteers are not only making a tangible impact but also cultivating a culture of empathy and kindness in their city 🌈

The statistics alone are alarming – an increase in families struggling to make ends meet over the past month and a half has left a significant dent in the community's social fabric. It's a stark reminder that our actions have consequences, and giving back is not just about personal fulfillment but also about addressing systemic issues.

I'm struck by the presence of former Mayor London Breed, who acknowledges the organization's role in supporting her family during challenging times. Her words highlight the importance of intergenerational connections and community support systems 🌟

As we reflect on this event, let's not forget that volunteering is a year-round endeavor. Organizations like GLIDE Center for Social Justice rely heavily on volunteers throughout the calendar year, not just during the holiday season 📆

🌟 I'm so heartened by this tradition of volunteering and giving back on Thanksgiving Day. It really puts things into perspective when we're all just trying to help each other out during the holiday season... 160 volunteer drivers making a huge impact on thousands of seniors is truly amazing 🤩

it's amazing to see so many people come together like this 🙏🏽... I mean, 160 volunteer drivers is insane! but at the same time, 364 days of volunteering? that's just exhausting 🤯. as much as I love the spirit of giving back, it can't be all about one day a year... some people need help on a daily basis and it's not like organizations are getting overwhelmed or anything 💸.

anyway, I'm glad to see former Mayor London Breed showing up to lend her support 🙌. she's right that GLIDE has helped so many families in the past. but can't we just make this kind of thing a year-round thing? or at least have some programs in place for those who need help on a daily basis? idk, maybe I'm just being too pessimistic 😐...

It's so heartwarming to see people from all walks of life coming together to serve others 🙏. I remember volunteering at my local soup kitchen last winter and it was such a feel-good experience. You get to meet so many amazing people, some who have been struggling with homelessness or poverty for years, but still manage to smile and share their stories with you.

I think what really gets me is when volunteers like Audrey say they've been doing this for 37 years just because it gives them that feeling of fulfillment 🤩. For someone like me who's not as old, I can only imagine how much more it means to be able to give back in that way.

And the fact that organizations like GLIDE Center are always looking for volunteers year-round is so cool 💖. It's one thing to do something big on Thanksgiving Day but another to keep showing up and making a difference all year round. I'm definitely going to look into volunteering more often now!
