Florida Gubernatorial Contention: Byron Donalds Faces Challenger James Fishback.
Republican investor James Fishback has announced his candidacy for Florida governor next year, positioning himself against Trump-endorsed Congressman Byron Donalds. Despite trailing in public polls, Fishback believes that his message on AI data centers, property tax reform, and H-1B visas will resonate with the voters.
Fishback recently told Newsweek that despite being behind in the polls, he has garnered a notable social media following and has been supportive of the Trump administration. "Byron has been in the race for nine months and he's still losing to undecided," Fishback said. "That’s because he doesn’t have a coherent vision to preserve what Governor DeSantis has built."
In contrast, Donalds is currently leading in polls with 45% support, according to Victory Insights survey from earlier this month. Renner held less than three percent support, while both Fishback and Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins had one percent support.
One notable difference between the two candidates is their stance on AI data centers. Donalds has expressed a willingness to invest in AI as governor, whereas Fishback opposes the construction of such data centers, citing concerns about affordability and environmental impact.
Trump has endorsed Donalds, while DeSantis has not made an endorsement. The odds on Kalshi's betting platform currently favor Donalds with 76% chance of winning the primary, followed by Fishback at 12%.
Other candidates have expressed skepticism about Fishback’s chances, including senior pollster Ben Galbraith from Victory Insights who stated that Donalds is "rolling steadily towards the Governor’s Mansion" with no other candidate achieving statistical significance.
