Man Struck and Killed by MBTA Train in Haverhill
Tragedy struck early Tuesday morning in Haverhill when an adult man was struck and killed by an MBTA commuter rail train. According to Transit Police Superintendent-in-Chief Richard Sullivan, the incident occurred at approximately 6:11 a.m., near the Cross Street crossing.
In a bizarre turn of events, authorities stated that the man had intentionally entered onto the right of way, where he was subsequently struck by the inbound commuter rail train. The Haverhill Fire Department and PrideStar EMS ambulance units responded to the scene in under 10 minutes after receiving a call at 5:36 a.m.
The patient was transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the MBTA Transit Police and Essex County District Attorney's Office are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"This is a tragic reminder of the importance of respecting railroad crossings," said Sullivan in a statement. "On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization, we offer our sincerest condolences to the decedent's family and friends."
The incident caused widespread disruptions along the Haverhill Line during the morning commute, with many trains experiencing significant delays. Trains originating from Lawrence were used as an alternative route, but some passengers were still delayed by up to 50 minutes.
Normal service was eventually restored around 8:30 a.m., but residual delays persisted until further notice. As the investigation into this tragic incident continues, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.

This is such a shockin' tragedy... like what even is goin on with people's lives these days? Intentionally enterin' onto the rail line? That's just so senseless... I mean, it's one thing if someone slips up or gets distracted, but this is just reckless. And the fact that they had to wait only 6 mins for help and they were still gone by the time they got there? It's just awful 
. But at least they switched to using trains from Lawrence, that saved some people, right?
. Entering onto the railroad tracks without permission is a huge risk and can have devastating consequences. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim, may they find peace and support during this tough time 
. It's also frustrating for commuters who got stuck in those delays, I totally feel their pain 
train accidents like this are just so senseless 
glad the fire department responded fast but still, that poor family has a lot to deal with right now 
it's not like it's a game or something and i'm so tired of hearing about these senseless deaths... 50 minutes delayed is nothing compared to the pain his family must be going through 
. And now passengers are stuck on trains for ages? Come on MBTA, can you at least give us some decent Wi-Fi in the station while we're waiting

Oh man, can you believe that guy thought he could outrun the train... or just outsmart it? Like, what's next, trying to pay taxes in cash again? 
"I know all those traffic laws and railroad crossing signs are just suggestions..." 
... like what were they thinking?! getting on the tracks? it's just not worth it, you know? my cousin lost a sibling in an accident like that 10 yrs ago... it's still so fresh in our family's mind. anyway, hope the authorities get to the bottom of this and can prevent something like this from happening again
