A Philadelphia Man Gets Eight Years Behind Bars for Carjacking
Damon Bell, a 32-year-old local resident, has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for his role in a brazen carjacking in Center City. As part of the plea deal, he will also serve three years of supervised release and pay restitution of over $14,700.
According to prosecutors, Bell was involved in the early morning robbery on April 15, 2024, along with three other accomplices. The victims were approached at a parking lot on 13th and Vine streets and forced to hand over their keys at gunpoint. When one of the men tried to drive away, Bell and his cohorts blocked the vehicle, causing the man to flee on foot.
Once the man got out of his car, he was subjected to repeated pistol-whip attacks to the head by Bell and his accomplices before they took off in two separate vehicles โ the man's car and their own. The incident left one person injured, but fortunately, he managed to escape unharmed.
Bell pleaded guilty to the charges against him last July, and the sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Mia Roberts Perez. The punishment reflects the severity of the crime and serves as a deterrent to potential carjackers in Philadelphia's urban centers.
