Minnesota Gov Walz demands Trump remove border agents after nurse killed

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued a scathing demand to President Donald Trump on Sunday, urging him to remove "untrained" federal immigration agents from the state after the fatal shooting of 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. The incident marks the second such killing in the city amid an ongoing immigration crackdown.

During a news briefing, Walz posed the question directly to Trump: "What's the plan, Donald Trump? What do we need to do to get these federal agents out of our state?" He went on to say that Trump's immigration policies have put Minnesota residents at risk and that his administration needs to take responsibility for the harm caused.

The killing of Pretti has sparked outrage among local law enforcement, Minneapolis residents, and Democrats on Capitol Hill. Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have condemned the incident, with Obama calling it a "heartbreaking tragedy" and a wake-up call to Americans about core values under assault.

Trump, however, has laid blame at the feet of Democrats, claiming that state and local authorities are refusing to cooperate with federal authorities. He described Pretti as a "gunman," which contradicts graphic video evidence showing the nurse holding a phone in his hand when shot by agents.

The Trump administration's defense of Pretti's killing has been met with skepticism, with many experts saying that border agents have overstepped their authority and used excessive force. Former DHS official Thomas Warrick said that Americans want to see violent criminals removed from the country, but not at the cost of innocent lives.

As protests continue in Minneapolis, Walz's demand for Trump to remove federal agents has been echoed by some Republican senators, who called for a thorough investigation into the killing and cooperation with local authorities. The incident has raised concerns about the use of force by immigration agents and the impact on communities of color.

In a statement, Pretti's family condemned the Trump administration's "sickening lies" about their son and accused ICE thugs of attacking him. They also called for the truth to be revealed about Alex's death.

The killing of Pretti highlights the growing tensions between the Trump administration's immigration policies and local law enforcement in Minneapolis, a city with one of the largest Somali communities in the US. The incident has sparked calls for greater accountability and cooperation between federal agencies and local authorities.

I'm so worried about what's happening in Minnesota right now 🤕. As an ICU nurse, Alex Pretti was just doing his job, trying to save lives, and this is how he got killed by people who are supposed to be protecting us? It's just heartbreaking 😭.

And the fact that Trump is blaming Democrats for this? Come on, Donald! You're the one who signed those policies that put our lives at risk 🚫. We need you to take responsibility and get these federal agents out of our state ASAP! 💨

It's not about Democrat vs Republican, it's about doing what's right for the people of Minnesota. Our law enforcement should be working together with local authorities, not against them 🤝.

I'm so tired of all this politics getting in the way of common sense 🙄. We need truth and justice, not lies and blame-shifting 💔. Pretti's family deserves answers, and we deserve better than to be treated like this 😡.

Trump's got some 'splainin' to do 🤔... it's just not right that they're putting lives at risk like this. I mean, come on, 37 years old and a nurse? That's someone who cares about people, not a "gunman" as Trump put it 🚫. The fact that he's blaming Democrats for not cooperating with the feds is just laughable - isn't that what they're supposed to do? Protect our state from... well, from people who might be here without permission?

And can we talk about how ICE thugs attacked Alex instead of stopping him? 🚫😱 The Pretti family's right to call out those lies is exactly what we need more of. We need some accountability and transparency here. I'm not sure why Republicans are suddenly on board with Walz's demand, but it's about time someone spoke up 👍.

This is getting out of hand 🤯. I mean, come on, 37-year-old nurse gets killed by fed agents and suddenly it's about "core values under assault"? 😒 Trump needs to take responsibility for his policies, not shift the blame to Democrats or start labeling an innocent victim a "gunman". That's just ridiculous 💥. The fact that he's trying to use this as a wedge issue is infuriating 🤬. And what's with the ICE thugs calling Pretti's family "sickening lies"? 👎 Can't we just focus on finding out what happened and making sure it doesn't happen again? 🤕

You think the whole thing is just about immigrants right? But nope 🙅‍♂️ it's more complex than that! I mean, Alex Pretti was a nurse not an immigrant lol what did he have to do with anything? 😂 but seriously, the issue here is not just about immigration, it's about accountability and training. I think Trump should take responsibility for his administration's actions and make sure that these agents are trained properly before sending them out to deal with situations like this. It's not just about removing federal agents from Minnesota, it's about making sure we have a system in place that protects everyone's life 🤝 and by the way, "gunman" is such an inaccurate term 😒

omg this is sooo concerning 🤯 i mean can u imagine being an ICU nurse just doing ur job and then getting shot by federal agents 🚨 it's like, what even is the plan here? tim walz is right though, we need those agents outta minnesota ASAP 💥 and trump's defense of this is literally not making sense at all 🙄 i mean alex pretti was a human being with a phone in his hand when he got shot, how can u blame that on democrats? 🤷‍♀️ it's just so frustrating seeing ppl get hurt over these immigration policies 🚫 and we need to hold those responsible accountable 💪
