Netflix makes its mark on the Oscars with Frankenstein and KPop Demon Hunters

The 98th Academy Awards nominations were announced, and Netflix has made a significant splash in the cinematic world. Ryan Coogler's vampire-adjacent period drama Sinners took home an impressive 16 nominations, setting a record for the most Oscar nods for a single film.

Sinners' nomination streak is not limited to just performances; it also swept through various categories, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Michael B. Jordan received a nomination for Best Actor, while Delroy Lindo secured his first Oscar nod after 50 years in the industry for Best Supporting Actor.

The streaming giant's other film, Train Dreams, earned a Best Picture nod alongside Frankenstein, marking Netflix's presence on the prestigious awards stage.

Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another walked away with 13 nominations, while Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia garnered four. Apple's F1 made a surprise appearance in the running for Best Picture, adding to Netflix's growing momentum.

However, Netflix is not without its competition. International animated sensation KPop Demon Hunters received a nomination for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, taking home two awards from the Academy.

The 98th annual Academy Awards will be held on March 15, with Conan O'Brien set to host. The ceremony has been broadcast live on ABC since 1939 but is scheduled to shift to YouTube in 2029.
 
I'm so over Netflix trying to crash the Oscars party 🙄.
