NTSB opens investigation into Waymo robotaxis for improperly passing school buses in Texas

man, this whole thing is just wild I mean, who doesn't want autonomous cars, right? but at what cost? Waymo's got some serious egg on their face with these incidents. I get that they're still learning and tweaking, but 2 dozen violations? that's a lot of mistakes for a company that claims to have it all figured out .

And yeah, the fact that they refused to halt operations when the buses were around is just plain stupid . I don't blame the school district for wanting to protect their students, and I think Waymo should've been more considerate of that from the get-go. The update they're making is a good start, but it's gonna take a lot more than that to regain trust.

It's all about accountability, you know? If Waymo can't even get this right with something as simple as school buses, how are we supposed to trust them on the road? I'm keeping an eye on this one, for sure

I think Waymo's getting roasted for this one... they shoulda listened to the school district's concerns and just paused operations during those hours . I'm not surprised Waymo's self-driving cars are under scrutiny again . Those incidents in Texas were super concerning, especially when it comes to school buses. I mean, shouldn't autonomous vehicles be able to navigate these situations without issues? It's just basic safety protocol.

I get it, technology is always evolving and bugs can creep in, but it seems like a lack of thoroughness on their part.

The Austin ISD's request for Waymo to halt operations during school bus hours was a reasonable one, but it's frustrating that they refused . It shows a clear lack of understanding about the importance of prioritizing safety around vulnerable groups like kids. The NTSB's investigation is needed, but I hope Waymo takes responsibility for their mistakes and makes some serious changes to their protocols ASAP
