Two Chicago police officers opened fire on a man who allegedly opened fire on them during a domestic disturbance in Chatham on Friday night. According to authorities, the man, armed with a knife and gun, initially responded to a call for help at a home on Ingleside Avenue.
The situation escalated when he tried to flee from the scene, prompting the officers to respond. It was reported that the suspect fired shots towards the officers, who then returned fire multiple times, hitting him in various spots. The man was subsequently apprehended and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Prior to making the 911 call, the male suspect had allegedly shot a woman, aged 23, in the arm. Miraculously, she survived with two gunshot wounds after being rushed to hospital.
The officers involved were not injured during the confrontation but recovered a firearm from the scene. An investigation into the shooting is currently underway by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
