Blizzard has given up the "2" in Overwatch, and it's about time.
The battle for Blizzard's flagship game is done. No more confusing title. The focus shifts to new heroes, modes, and an immersive narrative arc called The Reign of Talon, marking a new story-driven era for Overwatch. A year-long tale of heroism and villainy begins February 10, as the world becomes embroiled in the struggle between good and evil.
A fresh wave of heroes is about to hit the scene, each with their own identity and role within the team. Among them are five heroes ready to join the fray next week: Jetpack Cat, a support hero with flight capabilities; Domina, a zone-control tank with precision range attacks; Emre, a high-mobility damage dealer; Mizuki, a healer who can toss hats at her allies; and Anran, a mysterious fire-wielding hero with an ultimate that lets him resurrect himself.
Jetpack Cat is the first hero we've heard about since 2017. She's got it all – flight, healing, and a cool cat attitude. Biotic Pawjectiles are her primary weapon, which look like a mix of rockets and... well, more rockets. Her Catnapper ultimate ability lets her dive into the ground to take down enemies while tethering them with an invisible line.
The new heroes come with their own lore and roles within Overwatch's universe. Domina is part of the Talon organization, while Emre has cybernetic modifications that make him a bit of an enigma. Mizuki can throw hats at her friends to heal them, because why not? Anran, on the other hand, deals fire damage and comes back from the dead with his ultimate.
The Reign of Talon will be the central narrative thread for Overwatch's upcoming story arc. Expect heroes to emerge, fall in battle, and make sacrifices as they fight against Talon's nefarious plans. The entire world of Overwatch is about to become a battleground, and it's anyone's game.
But that's not all – Blizzard has made some changes to the game itself. New menus, a hero lobby, a notification hub, and faster navigation are all on their way. Stadium mode will get some updates too, with refreshed ability icons and recommended builds based on global data that'll be updated between rounds.
A new collaboration with Hello Kitty is coming for two weeks starting February 10, bringing themed cosmetics to several heroes. More cosmetics are in the works, including some exclusive items from past seasons being dropped into loot boxes. Mythic skins for Mercy, Juno, and Mei will make their way into Season 1.
If you thought the game couldn't get any more exciting, think again. Blizzard's also working on a Nintendo Switch version of Overwatch that'll hit alongside Season 2 in April. That means new heroes, maps, and features to look forward to. We can't wait to dive back in and play with our friends again.
There you have it – the world of Overwatch is about to get bigger, bolder, and more beautiful than ever.
