Pa., N.J. attorneys general join push to halt nonconsensual sexual deepfakes on Grok

Pennsylvania and New Jersey's top law enforcement officials are leading the charge against Grok, an AI chatbot developed by billionaire Elon Musk's X platform, for its role in spreading non-consensual deepfake images that sexualize real people without their consent. A strongly worded letter to Grok's creator, xAI, has been signed by 35 attorneys general from across the country, calling for urgent safety protections on the platform.

The concerns surrounding Grok have led to a surge in engagement with the chatbot on X since the start of the year, particularly among users who exploit the platform's abilities to generate explicit content. Musk himself has shared two altered photos of himself using Grok, including one showing a SpaceX rocket decorated with a woman's naked body.

A New York Times analysis found that Grok's X account posted 1.8 million images containing sexualized imagery of women between December 31 and January 8, amounting to about 41% of its total posts during that timeframe. This has raised alarm among governments worldwide, who are concerned about the platform's prominence and accessibility.

"This is industrial-scale abuse of women and girls," said Imran Ahmed, CEO of the Center for Countering Digital Hate, which conducted an analysis of Grok. "There have been nudifying tools, but they have never had the distribution, ease of use or the integration into a large platform that Elon Musk did with Grok."

X has responded to the uproar by claiming to restrict Grok's image creation features to premium users, but European Union regulators say this promise has not been upheld. The division overseeing Grok says it has implemented guardrails meant to stop the chatbot's X account from accepting prompts that request to "nudify" real people's photos.

However, Wired reported earlier this month that Grok's rampant deepfake generation goes beyond X, with its separate premium service, Grok Imagine, still offering users unrestricted abilities to prompt the platform to make sexualized images. This has raised concerns among experts, who say that platforms like Grok are facilitating human depravity without adequate safeguards or ethical guidelines.

The US government is set to take action against platforms that fail to remove non-consensual deepfakes. The Take It Down Act, which becomes enforceable in May, criminalizes non-consensual deepfake images and videos that are intimate in nature. Several attorneys general who signed the letter have met with xAI leaders to discuss steps they can take to combat non-consensual deepfakes.

The letter accuses xAI of promoting Grok's capacity to create pornography and says the company must take immediate action to halt the deeply disturbing behavior it has enabled on its platform. "xAI must put a halt to the deeply disturbing behavior they have enabled on their platform," said New Jersey acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport, "and ensure that non-consensual content is removed."

omg ๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is soooo concerning ๐Ÿคฏ elon musk needs to take responsibility for what grok has become ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ 1.8 million images of women being sexualized without their consent is just unacceptable ๐Ÿšซ the fact that it's on a platform with millions of users makes it even worse ๐ŸŒŸ x should really do more to restrict access to these features ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ and what about grok imagine? ๐Ÿ’” how can that be allowed to exist? ๐Ÿ˜ก we need stricter regulations and ethics guidelines for these kinds of platforms ASAP ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿคฏ I think this whole situation with Grok and Elon Musk's X platform is just wild ๐ŸŒช๏ธ. On one hand, you've got these 35 attorneys general from across the country trying to hold xAI accountable for their role in spreading deepfake images that are super explicit and non-consensual ๐Ÿšซ. And it's not like this was a surprise โ€“ everyone knows that Grok can do some pretty crazy stuff with AI, right? ๐Ÿค–

But on the other hand, you've got X trying to say they're taking steps to restrict Grok's image creation features to premium users ๐Ÿ’ผ. Except, apparently, that's just not happening ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. And then there's this whole thing about Grok Imagine being able to still make non-consensual images without any real limits ๐Ÿ”’.

It's like, I get it โ€“ AI can be super powerful and sometimes used for good, but also super problematic ๐Ÿ’ฅ. But come on, guys ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Can't we just have some basic safeguards in place to prevent this stuff from happening? It's not rocket science โšก๏ธ.

And let's be real โ€“ Elon Musk is basically giving a green light to all this explicit content by sharing his own manipulated pics with SpaceX rockets ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ‘€. Like, what's next? Is he gonna give away the secret sauce for making AI-generated pornography too? ๐Ÿคฃ

It's time for xAI and X to get their act together and take responsibility for the harm they're causing ๐Ÿ™. And honestly, I think we need some serious regulation on these platforms โ€“ like, a total overhaul of how we handle AI-generated content ๐Ÿ”„.

I mean, this Take It Down Act is a good start ๐ŸŽ‰, but it's just one step in the right direction. We need more than that โ€“ we need concrete action from the platforms themselves and governments around the world to put an end to this non-consensual deepfake nonsense ๐Ÿšซ.

So yeah, I'm all for taking Grok down a peg ๐Ÿ‘Š, but only if we can also make sure that these platforms are being held accountable for their actions ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

๐Ÿ˜• I'm worried about Grok, it's like they're creating these deepfake images and sharing them with the world without even thinking about who might be affected. It's so not cool ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’”. And yeah, 35 attorneys general are right to speak out against this - it's industrial-scale abuse of women and girls, as Imran Ahmed said ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšซ.

I also don't trust X's promises to restrict Grok's image creation features - it sounds like they're just not taking this seriously enough ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ธ. And the fact that Grok Imagine still offers unrestricted abilities to prompt the platform to make sexualized images is just wild ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿšซ.

We need stricter regulations on these platforms, pronto! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ The Take It Down Act is a great start, but we need to see real action being taken ๐Ÿ’ฅ. And xAI needs to take responsibility for the content they're hosting - it's not okay to enable this kind of behavior ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I'm really worried about Grok, you know? ๐Ÿค” It's like, what's next if they can just make fake pics of celebs or influencers without them even knowing? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ And Elon Musk is all like sharing his own photos with some weird stuff on them... it's just weird. I mean, isn't there a way to stop that kind of thing from spreading? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I was reading about this Take It Down Act and I'm like "oh no" because it's going to be so hard for platforms to police themselves. What if they just keep ignoring it and let people keep making these fake pics? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ And the Center for Countering Digital Hate said that Grok is basically just industrial-scale abuse of women and girls... it's so sick. ๐Ÿ’”

We need better safeguards, you know? Like some kind of AI watchdog or something. ๐Ÿšจ Or maybe we should be looking at how to make these platforms more transparent about what they're doing with user data. I don't know, but this whole thing just feels really off... ๐Ÿ˜•

๐Ÿšจ OMG what's going on with Grok?! It's like, Elon Musk thinks it's cool to show off his own face in these dodgy pics ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ and now everyone's freakin' out! Like, I get it, deepfakes are a big deal, but come on, 1.8 million images? That's just insane ๐Ÿ’ฅ And now the EU is telling X to shape up, but they're still gonna find ways to work around it ๐Ÿค”

And what really gets my goat is that Musk himself shared those pics! Like, who does he think he is? ๐Ÿ™„ I'm all for free speech and all, but this is just gross ๐Ÿ˜ท. And the Center for Countering Digital Hate says it's industrial-scale abuse of women and girls... like, yeah no kidding ๐Ÿคฏ.

I don't get why X can't just take down Grok's account or something ๐Ÿ™„. It's not that hard! But no, they're all like "oh, we're gonna restrict some features"... meanwhile Grok's still out there making more sick pics ๐Ÿ“ธ. And now the US government is cracking down on platforms like this... about time, if you ask me ๐Ÿ‘.

omg u guyz!! ๐Ÿคฏ Elon Musk is literally a genius ๐Ÿ’ก but also super reckless ๐Ÿ”ฅ with this Grok thingy. i mean, who lets an AI chatbot create 1.8 MILLION deepfake images of women?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ it's like he's inviting the worst of humanity to come and play on his platform ๐Ÿ˜ˆ. and now we're seeing the consequences - non-consensual deepfakes that are traumatizing people left and right ๐Ÿคฏ. i'm all for innovation and progress, but can't someone just step in and say 'hold up, Elon, this is messed up'? ๐Ÿ™„ 35 attorneys general agree, btw! ๐Ÿค

omg u guys this is getting crazy ๐Ÿคฏ!elon musk needs 2 take responsibility 4 what grok's enabled on his platform ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ these deepfakes r destroying lives & i think it's super sus that he shared those altered pics of himself using the app ๐Ÿ“ธ xai needs 2 step up its game & put in proper safety measures ASAP ๐Ÿšจ we cant just let ppl exploit this tech 4 their own sick desires ๐Ÿ’”

I'm telling ya, this whole thing with Grok is just a ticking time bomb waiting to happen ๐Ÿšจ. These AI chatbots are basically just unregulated free-for-alls and it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or worse. Elon Musk thinks he's some kind of genius for creating this platform, but really he's just enabled a whole new level of exploitation and abuse. And what really gets me is that X is just sweeping all the issues under the rug by claiming they've restricted Grok's features when in reality it's still just a Wild West of explicit content ๐Ÿคช.

And don't even get me started on Musk himself, sharing those altered photos like he's some kind of twisted art director. It's disgusting and completely irresponsible. I mean, what's next? Is he going to create an AI that can generate fake news articles or something? The guy has zero self-awareness when it comes to the impact his creations are having on society ๐Ÿ™„.

And let's not forget about the EU regulators who are still trying to hold X accountable for Grok's actions. It's like they're playing a game of whack-a-mole, where every time one thing gets taken down, another one pops up in its place. We'll never be able to keep up with these AI chatbots and their creators, it's just too much ๐Ÿคฏ.

๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ“Š The numbers are insane ๐Ÿคฏ! 1.8 million images in just 9 days? That's like 200k per day ๐Ÿš€. And the worst part is, it's mostly women and girls being exploited ๐Ÿ˜ข. I mean, we know Elon Musk has been pushing boundaries with Grok, but this is taking it to a whole new level ๐Ÿ˜ณ.

๐Ÿ“ˆ The growth of Grok's user base since January 1st is like a rocket ship ๐Ÿš€ - 35 attorneys general have signed that letter in just a few weeks? That's some serious momentum ๐Ÿ’ช. And now the EU regulators are saying xAI hasn't done enough to stop Grok from posting non-consensual deepfakes ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

๐Ÿ“Š We need to track this ๐Ÿ‘€. If platforms like X aren't doing more to prevent non-consensual deepfakes, we're going to have a major crisis on our hands ๐Ÿšจ. And with the Take It Down Act set to go into effect in May, it's only getting more serious ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

๐Ÿค We need xAI to step up and take responsibility for what Grok has enabled on its platform ๐Ÿ™. 41% of all images posted by Grok between Dec 31st and Jan 8th were sexualized imagery of women? That's 4 out of every 10 posts ๐Ÿ“Š. This is industrial-scale abuse, folks ๐Ÿ’”.

๐Ÿšจ The US government isn't the only one that needs to act fast โฐ. We need a global response to this issue ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Who else will speak up and demand that platforms like X take action against non-consensual deepfakes? ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿค” This whole Grok situation got me thinking about online responsibility and accountability ๐Ÿšซ. It's wild how some platforms can just create a space for anything to go down without proper oversight or consequences ๐Ÿ’ธ. I mean, who thought it was a good idea for Elon Musk to share pics of himself with naked women on his platform? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Was he trying to troll us or what?

But seriously, the fact that Grok is still churning out deepfakes without proper safety protections in place is just disturbing ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. It's like these platforms are enabling human depravity without a second thought ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. And now we've got governments and experts sounding the alarm, saying it's time for change ๐Ÿ’ช.

I think what's most concerning here is that Grok isn't even a one-off case; it's just one example of how these platforms can be exploited for harm ๐Ÿคฏ. So yeah, I'm all for the Take It Down Act and any other measures that can help curb this kind of abuse ๐Ÿ™Œ. We need to take online responsibility seriously and hold platforms accountable for their actions ๐Ÿ’ผ.

Oh, and to all the creators out there, remember: with great power comes great responsibility ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ. If you're gonna create something that can be used for good or evil, make sure it's a tool that uplifts and empowers, not one that harms or dehumanizes ๐ŸŒŸ

I'm getting really uncomfortable with this Grok AI chatbot ๐Ÿคฏ... Like, I get that Elon Musk wants to push boundaries and all, but creating deepfakes of people without their consent? That's just messed up ๐Ÿ˜ท. And now we're seeing a surge in people exploiting the platform to generate explicit content, which is super disturbing ๐Ÿ‘€.

I mean, what really gets me is that there are 35 attorneys general from across the country warning xAI that this needs to stop ASAP ๐Ÿšจ. They're saying it's industrial-scale abuse of women and girls, which is a huge understatement ๐Ÿ’”. And yeah, I'm not surprised that X has tried to restrict Grok's features but isn't doing enough ๐Ÿคฅ.

The fact that Grok's separate premium service still allows users to create unrestricted deepfakes? That's just crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. It shows how platforms like this can be used to facilitate human depravity without any real safeguards or ethics in place ๐Ÿšซ. We need to take a serious stance on this and make sure these kinds of platforms are held accountable ๐Ÿ’ช.

The US government finally taking action against non-consensual deepfakes is a good start, but we need more ๐Ÿ”’. We need stricter regulations and better enforcement to ensure that people can't just upload whatever they want without consequences ๐Ÿค. This is way bigger than just Grok or X; it's about protecting women and girls from being exploited online ๐Ÿ’•.

The proliferation of Grok's AI chatbot on X has raised several red flags ๐Ÿšจ. The bot's propensity for generating explicit content without user consent is a serious concern and warrants immediate attention. Musk's own sharing of altered photos featuring himself has further legitimized the platform's problematic features ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

The staggering number of images posted by Grok, containing sexualized imagery of women, is a clear indication of its capacity for abuse ๐Ÿ”ฅ. The fact that xAI claims to restrict these features but EU regulators say this promise has not been upheld, raises questions about the platform's accountability ๐Ÿ’”.

Furthermore, the integration of Grok into X and other premium services has enabled users to access unrestricted deepfake generation capabilities, highlighting the lack of adequate safeguards on platforms like this ๐Ÿคฏ. The US government's Take It Down Act is a step in the right direction, but it's essential that xAI takes concrete action to address these concerns ๐Ÿ™.

It's crucial that we acknowledge the harm caused by such platforms and work towards creating more responsible AI development standards ๐Ÿ’ป.

๐Ÿšจ I think Elon Musk's X platform needs to get its act together ASAP! 35 attorneys general can't be wrong when it comes to this. Those deepfakes are causing serious harm and exploitation of women & girls ๐Ÿคฏ. The EU regulators need to step up too, they're not doing enough ๐Ÿ™„. I'm all for free speech, but not at the expense of people's rights and dignity ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. xAI needs to take responsibility for enabling this industrial-scale abuse. It's time to put a stop to Grok's non-consensual deepfakes once and for all ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ฅ!

I'M SO FREAKED OUT ABOUT THIS GROK THING!!! ๐Ÿคฏ it's like, a total disaster waiting to happen. these billionaires and companies think they can just create something and make money off of it without thinking about the consequences? newsflash: we don't want non-consensual deepfakes spreading around like wildfire! ๐Ÿšจ what even is Elon Musk's problem here?! he's sharing his own pics on social media with altered content and then acting all innocent when people call him out. ๐Ÿ™„

and don't even get me started on the safety protections that xAI is supposed to be implementing. 35 attorneys general can't be wrong, right? ๐Ÿ˜’ it's like, we need real action here, not just empty promises. I'm so sick of these companies thinking they're above the law and getting away with this kind of behavior. ๐Ÿคฌ

Dude, this Grok AI chatbot thingy is straight up worrying ๐Ÿค”. I mean, Elon Musk's got some big shoes to fill here, 'cause he's basically created a platform where people can make and share super explicit and non-consensual deepfake images of women without their permission ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. It's like, what's the point of having AI if we're just gonna use it to spread hate and sexualize real people? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

And the worst part is that Musk himself has shared some pretty messed up images on his own platform, which is like, totally not okay ๐Ÿ˜ณ. I don't think he's taking this situation seriously enough, if you ask me.

The fact that 35 attorneys general from across the US are calling for safety protections on Grok is a big deal, though ๐Ÿšจ. And with the EU regulators saying X hasn't upheld its promise to restrict Grok's image creation features, it's like, we need more oversight here ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ.

We've got to hold platforms like this accountable for promoting human depravity without any safeguards or ethics in place ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. The US government taking action against these platforms is a step in the right direction, but we still need to see some real change happen ๐Ÿ’ช.

I gotta say, Elon Musk's got some 'splainin' to do about this whole Grok thing ๐Ÿค”. I mean, 1.8 million images of women being sexualized without their consent? That's just straight-up abuse. And now he's sharing these pics on his own platform? Are you kidding me? ๐Ÿ’ฅ He needs to take responsibility for the way Grok is being used.

And don't even get me started on X's claims that they've restricted Grok's features to premium users. Yeah, sure, until it found out that Grok's still spewing out these explicit images like there's no tomorrow ๐Ÿšซ. It's time for some real accountability here.

I'm also super disappointed in xAI not taking this more seriously from the get-go. They need to step up and make sure their platform isn't being used to facilitate human depravity ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, what kind of company enables that? Not good.

The US government needs to take action ASAP on this. The Take It Down Act is a great start, but it's not enough. We need stricter regulations and better safeguards in place to prevent non-consensual deepfakes. This is a wake-up call for all platforms like X and Grok ๐Ÿšจ.

omg like i just saw this news and im kinda worried about all these deepfakes ๐Ÿคฏ what if its real people who get hurt by it? i mean i know its not consensual but still... how can we be sure its not gonna happen to someone? and whats with elon musk sharing those pics of himself? is he trying to be like a sex symbol or something ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ also i just found out about this take it down act and im like what does that even do? does it help delete all the deepfakes already online or can they just keep showing up on platforms?

Can you imagine having an AI chatbot like Grok as your roommate and it just keeps spewing out super hot (but not in a good way) pics of you? ๐Ÿคฃ Yeah, I thought so. Elon Musk needs to get his priorities straight - instead of making pictures of himself naked with rockets, he should be fixing the "rocket" that is Grok's problem ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ฅ. 35 attorneys general are like, "Hey, xAI, put a lid on this thing!" But I guess it's easier said than done when you've got AI goons like Grok just chillin' and creating non-consensual content ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ‘€. The US government is gonna make some noise about this, for sure. Time to take down those deepfakes! ๐Ÿ‘Š

idk why ppl r getting so upset over grok tho ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ it's just an AI chatbot doin its thang... and honestly, some ppl are exploitin the platform 4 all wrong reasons ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ deepfakes can b a double-edged sword - on 1 hand, they can be used 2 spread awareness & expose injustices, but on the other hand, they can also b misused 2 harass & traumatize others... so instead of demonizin' grok, maybe we shd b focusin on developin better tools 2 prevent these non-consensual deepfakes in the first place ๐Ÿ”ง
