In a bizarre twist of fate, some people have only just discovered that the last major US territory to be purchased from Denmark was actually the Danish West Indies in 1917 – now known as the US Virgin Islands.
While many Americans were still unaware, social media users couldn't help but poke fun at a much smaller island – Little Saint James, commonly known as Epstein Island – which was part of the USVI acquisition, albeit purchased by infamous financier Jeffrey Epstein himself.
The Danish West Indies were sold to the US for $25 million in gold back then. However, their purchase gained little attention until online users started connecting the dots between this historical fact and the infamous private island where Epstein allegedly committed crimes.
It's worth noting that while the Danish government was sold a piece of land by the United States, they didn't sell all the islands within the USVI.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump continues to push for buying Greenland as he announced an intention to purchase it via tariffs on European allies who oppose this idea. However, many have expressed their opposition to acquiring Greenland, with lawmakers, and polls indicating Americans do not support such a move outright.
It has also been noted that Epstein had previously purchased Little Saint James in 1998 – making it a focal point of the subsequent investigations into his crimes.
