Luke Littler Wins First Title in Players Championship Finals
Teenager Luke Littler, the world number one, has captured his first major darts title by defeating fellow Englishman Nathan Aspinall 11-8 in the final of the Players Championship Finals at Minehead.
The 18-year-old Littler, who was beaten in last year's final by Luke Humphries, added a new trophy to his cabinet just a week after lifting the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton and topping the world rankings for the first time.
Aspinall put up a good fight, but ultimately couldn't withstand Littler's strong performance. The final saw four maximum 180s by Aspinall, one less than 'The Nuke', Luke Littler.
Littler averaged 103.33 to Aspinall's 93.64 in the deciding leg and hit a checkout of 88 to seal his sixth televised title.
"It wasn't easy to get to this final at all," Littler said, "but I am very proud to get this one ticked off the list - only two more to go now."
Littler's win marks a significant milestone in his young career. He had previously beaten Luke Humphries in last year's final but couldn't replicate that success in the championship. However, he has finally broken through and secured his first major title.
Aspinall, who has been playing well for several weeks, was gracious in defeat, acknowledging Littler's skill and emotion.
