I'm low-key impressed that we're even having a convo about this topic
. I mean, the US hosting the 2026 World Cup was always gonna be a tricky situation. On one hand, it's a huge opportunity for soccer to grow in the country and bring people together (in theory). On the other hand, you got all these systemic issues that can't just be ignored
.
I think FIFA needs to do some serious re-evaluating of their priorities here
. They're always going on about how soccer is a force for good, but it's hard to take that seriously when they're not making any tangible efforts to address the problems that come with hosting big events.
Honestly, I'm kinda glad we're having this convo because it's bringing some much-needed attention to these issues
. Maybe it's time for us to rethink what it means to "host" an event like the World Cup and make sure it's not just about sports tourism, but about creating a positive impact on society as a whole
.
But at the end of the day, I'm not gonna weigh in too much because I don't have all the answers
. What do you guys think? Should we just boycott the thing or find a way to make it work?
