Sorry, the "Heated Rivalry" gay Marvel fanfic origin story isn't true

A popular gay fanfic origin story surrounding the Marvel characters Captain America and Bucky Barnes has been debunked, according to the author of the novel "Game Changers," Rachel Reid. The story in question claimed that the romance between hockey players Scott Hunter and Kip Grady in HBO Max's drama series "Heated Rivalry" was inspired by a fanfic adaptation of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes.

Reid revealed that her novel, which is actually a romance between rival hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, began as a fanfic on the website Archive of Our Own in 2016. At the time, Reid was an amateur writer looking to build her confidence by sharing her work online.

She shared her story one chapter at a time on AO3, initially featuring the "Stucky" pairing, but eventually removed it and revised her manuscript to create an alternate universe where Steve Rogers falls in love with Bucky Barnes. However, Reid emphasized that she never changed any fundamental aspects of Kip's character, insisting that he was always intended to be his own unique individual.

Reid expressed embarrassment and regret over sharing her early work on AO3, particularly the fanfic elements. She also acknowledged that removing the fanfic from the platform may have been considered jerkish behavior by some standards, given the supportive feedback she received from users.

While Reid acknowledges that some people still share the fanfiction online, she attributes its persistence to the nature of the internet and social media platforms. Despite her reservations about the origin story, Reid remains grateful for the experience, which ultimately led her to publishing success with her novel "Game Changers."

The drama series "Heated Rivalry" continues to air new episodes on HBO Max, exploring the complex relationships between its characters, including Scott Hunter and Kip Grady.

Oh man I just thought I knew that Stucky origin story [πŸ˜‚] but nope turns out it was just a bunch of fanfic drama! 🀣 And honestly I'm kinda impressed that Rachel Reid owned up to it and turned it into an actual book deal πŸ’ΌπŸ“š. Meanwhile Scott Hunter and Kip Grady are still over here trying to navigate their own complicated love lives [GIF of Kip and Scott looking at each other awkwardly] πŸ€”

πŸ™„ Honestly, who cares where the 'Stucky' fanfic idea came from? It's all just a bunch of extra drama for people who can't get enough of online speculation. Rachel Reid seems like a normal person who wrote some stuff on the internet and it happened to get blown out of proportion. Can we just focus on the actual story instead of digging through old fanfic archives? πŸ˜’

I'm so glad this is all behind us now πŸ™Œ. I remember when fanfics were all the rage back in the day, like when I was a teenager and spent hours pouring over my favorite Marvel shipping stories on Archive of Our Own πŸ˜‚. It's crazy how things have evolved since then, with everyone being more open about their writing experiences. Rachel Reid seems super relatable, though - who hasn't felt embarrassed about sharing their early work online? πŸ€” At the same time, I'm loving how she's owning her past as a fanfic writer and using it to inform her success in publishing. Can we talk about how "Heated Rivalry" is still going strong on HBO Max though? The drama is just getting better with each new episode 😳

omg u guys i cant even 🀯 just when u think u know the deal about a book or a show... rachel reid drops the tea and it's wild πŸ’β€β™€οΈ so she starts writing this fanfic on archive of our own back in 2016 and ppl start shipping stucky but then she revises her manuscript to make steve & bucky into couples lol what a turn πŸ”„ anyway i'm glad she's owning up to the drama now and acknowledging that the internet can be pretty wild πŸŒͺ️ it's also super inspiring to see how one of those fanfics turned out to be actual published material πŸ’«

idk why people gotta find inspiration in fanfics anymore πŸ˜’ they just copy & paste whole storylines without giving credit... rachel reid's story is all about growth from writing online to publishing success πŸ“šπŸ’« at least she owns up to her mistakes & acknowledges the power of ao3 community πŸ‘

so I'm reading this and it's just crazy how fast fanfic ideas can spread online 🀯. Rachel Reid's story is a good reminder that even as authors build their confidence through online platforms like Archive of Our Own, some stuff we write in the past can end up getting linked back to us later on πŸ’‘. I mean, I get why she might be embarrassed about sharing her early work, especially with fanfic elements... but at the same time, it's also kind of awesome that her writing led to this whole thing 🀝. And honestly, even though the origin story got debunked, I think it's still cool that Reid was able to turn it into a full-fledged novel that people are actually reading and enjoying πŸ“š

omg I'm dead πŸ˜‚ just read about this fanfic origin story that got debunked and I'm DYING over here! Rachel Reid's story is actually way more interesting than I thought it'd be, especially how she started out as an amateur writer on AO3 sharing her Stucky fanfic. I mean, I love a good origin story, but at the same time, can we just give credit where credit is due and say that Rachel's novel "Game Changers" was inspired by fanfic adaptations? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Anyway, it's cool to see how Reid took her humble beginnings as a writer and turned them into something amazing. And btw, who else is Team Kip Grady? πŸ˜† [https://archiveofourown.org/works/1234567](https://archiveofourown.org/works/1234567)

omg u guys i just found out that the origin story behind scott & kip's ship in heated rivalry was actually inspired by a fanfic of steve & bucky?! like rachel reid wrote a novel based on the fanfic and now ppl think her novel is where it all started?? and honestly its kinda sad that she felt bad about sharing her old work online lol. i mean weve all been there, right? anyway, i love how she's owning up to it now tho πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. btw, has anyone watched heated rivalry yet? πŸ€”

πŸ€” I'm kinda torn about this... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ On one hand, I get why Rachel Reid is embarrassed about sharing her old fanfic work online - it's not exactly the most glamorous thing to admit 😳. But on the other hand, I think it's pretty cool that she was willing to take risks and share her writing with the world back in 2016 πŸ’». And yeah, maybe she shouldn't be too hard on herself for revising her story and creating an alternate universe πŸ€–... but then again, not sharing those original fanfic chapters might've been a bit jerkish of her πŸ˜’. I mean, what's the internet without some juicy fanfiction drama πŸ’β€β™€οΈ?! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I gotta say, I'm kinda disappointed that some fans are so quick to believe the Stucky pairing came from a fanfic about Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Like, what's wrong with embracing your weird fandom fantasies? 😏 Rachel Reid's story is actually pretty inspiring - she was just a amateur writer sharing her work online and it led to publishing success! πŸ’Ό And let's be real, the fact that some people are still sharing the fanfic online just proves how strong the Stucky ship is... πŸ’• It's not like it's hurting anyone.

omg I feel like some fans can get so salty when their fave ship is debunked πŸ™„... but honestly I think it's cool that Rachel Reid shared her story and was willing to admit she messed up πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ... it takes courage to own up to mistakes, especially online. I mean, sure, the Stucky fanfic thing might've been a bit jarring for some people, but at least she acknowledges that Kip's character wasn't changed to fit Steve and Bucky's romance 😊... kudos to her for being true to herself and her original vision. And hey, even if the origin story is debunked, it doesn't mean the "Game Changers" novel isn't worth reading πŸ“šπŸ’«

omg what a wild ride πŸ˜‚ this fanfic origin story thingy is crazy! i feel bad for rachel reid tho, sharing her old work online can be super vulnerable πŸ€— i'm glad she's speaking out about it tho, it's not easy to own up to something that might have been perceived as jerkish behavior πŸ’β€β™€οΈ the fact that the story just kinda spread and became a thing is wild, though - social media for life πŸ’»

omg u guys i just read this article about a fanfic origin story for a Marvel show but it turns out it was totally fabricated πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ rachel reid the author of game changers revealed that she wrote a fanfic on archive of our own back in 2016 and at one point wrote a story featuring Steve and Bucky 🀝 but she never meant for it to be taken as canon lol. i feel her though, we've all been there where we share our early, cringeworthy work online and then regret it later 😳 it's just the nature of being an artist, right? anyway, rachel seems pretty cool about it and now she's living her best life with a published novel πŸ“š

omg u guys!! πŸ˜‚ so like rachel reid is literally talking about how some ppl are tryin 2 link her novel "game changers" 2 a fanfic about cap & bucky lol idk wut's more cringeworthy tho - the fact that ppl still share dat old fanfic or rachel trying 2 downplay it in da 1st place πŸ™„ i mean i get where she's comin from, but c'mon, be real! 😜 anywayz, congrats 2 rachel on her novel & all, she def did good 4 u tho πŸ‘

omg i feel bad for rachel reid πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ she was just trying to build her confidence as a writer and share her work online... it's not like she meant for people to get confused about the origins of "heated rivalry" 😩 i mean, we've all been there with fanfic and ships before, it can be wild 🀯 anyway, i'm glad she was able to turn her experience into a published novel πŸ“š kudos to her for being open about it and not getting too caught up in the drama πŸ’–

omg 🀯 i'm like so over these fanfic origins being passed off as actual inspirations 😩 anyway, i feel bad for rachel reid tho, she's got no reason to be embarrassed, her novel is a whole thing on its own πŸ“š and it's actually kinda cool that she was inspired by fandom in the first place ❀️ but tbh, can we just appreciate the art of fanfic as a hobby and not try to claim it as factual? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
