I mean, what's going on with Mark Thomson and Cern? Turning off the LHC for good just because it's been running well? I get that they need some engineering work done, but a 5-year shutdown? That's like taking our favorite sports team out of the game for half a decade.
And don't even get me started on the Future Circular Collider (FCC) project. Three times bigger than the LHC and costing 15 billion Swiss francs? It's gotta be a massive undertaking, but I'm not sure if it's worth the risk. What's the point of building something new just to potentially uncover more mysteries about dark matter and dark energy?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Mark Thomson seems optimistic about all this, but for me, there's always been a sense of excitement around pushing boundaries and exploring the unknown. When we start to lose hope, that's when things get really interesting.
