“They Could See My Color”: Minneapolis Uber Driver Speaks Out on Why Border Patrol Accosted Him

A Minneapolis Uber driver recounted his terrifying encounter with Border Patrol agents who targeted him because of his Somali heritage. Ahmed Bin Hassan, a 38-year-old American citizen and father of two, was driving for Uber at the airport when the agents arrived, demanding to know his immigration status.

"I can hear you don't have the same accent as me," one agent said, revealing their true motivation for accosting Hassan. The agents' behavior, which included taking cellphone videos and photographs, left Hassan feeling deflated but resolute.

Hassan's story highlights the alarming rise of anti-immigrant sentiment in the US, particularly targeting Somali Americans in cities like Minneapolis. The city's Somali community is comprised mainly of citizens and legal permanent residents, yet they have been disproportionately targeted by immigration enforcement actions.

In December 2025, Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched a massive crackdown on immigrants in the Twin Cities, sparking widespread outrage and resistance. Bin Hassan's courage in confronting the agents has inspired many to speak out against this form of systemic racism.

As Hassan said, "They couldn't hear my voice when they knocked on my window, but they could see my color." His actions are a testament to the enduring power of resilience and resistance in the face of hate.

omg thats so sad 🤕... immigrant ppl r already dealing w/ enough stress n anxiety, didnt think theyd have 2 worry bout racist agents on the job 🚫 u can see how this story's going to inspire ppl 2 speak out against anti-immigrant sentiment tho 💪 Ahmed Bin Hassan sounds like a total hero 4 staying calm n confronting those agents... hope more ppl r speaking up against this systemic racism 🔊

I was just thinking about how much I love avocado toast 🥑... like, have you guys tried that new place downtown? They make it with fresh avocados from California or something? I'm not even kidding, it's life changing! But anyway, back to the news... this whole situation with Ahmed Bin Hassan is just crazy 😱. Like, who targets someone for their accent? It's so messed up. You know what they say, "don't mess with people from Minnesota" - just kidding, but seriously, how can we even begin to address these kinds of issues? I'm all for supporting our Somali community in Minneapolis... maybe we should start an avocado toast fundraiser or something 🤣

🤕 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this - can't believe something like this is happening in our country... an Uber driver getting pulled over because of his accent, because of where he's from... it's just heartbreaking 😔. And it's not like Ahmed Bin Hassan did anything wrong, he's a US citizen and a father of two. I mean, what if this was my cousin or my neighbor? The thought alone is chilling me out 😨. We need to do more to address these systemic issues before they escalate further... it's time for us to stand up against racism in all its forms 💪.

I'm shocked by this incident with Ahmed Bin Hassan 😱. I mean, can you believe that he was stopped by Border Patrol agents just because of his Somali heritage? It's like, what even is going on here? 🤔 The fact that they were able to guess that he didn't have the same accent as them is just ridiculous, and it's clear that this is all about profiling and racism. 🚫

It's heartbreaking to think about how Hassan must have felt when those agents started taking his phone and taking videos of him. I can only imagine how deflated and scared he must have been. But you know what? He refused to be intimidated, and that takes a lot of courage. 💪

This whole thing is just a symptom of a bigger problem in the US, which is the way we treat our immigrant communities. Somali Americans are being targeted left and right, and it's not okay. We need to do better, like, now 🙏. We need to recognize that everyone has the same rights and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or where they're from.

I'm so inspired by Ahmed Bin Hassan's bravery, though. He's showing us all what it means to resist hate and fight for our rights. And I have no doubt that his story will inspire many others to do the same 💥. We need more people like him speaking out against this kind of systemic racism and pushing for change 📢.

omg this is soooo sad 😭 the US needs to step up their game and address this anti-immigrant sentiment ASAP it's just not right that ppl like ahmed bin hassan r being targeted cuz of their heritage 🤦‍♂️ he's an american citizen for crying out loud! 🙄 i mean, i know minneapolis has a huge somali community but it's crazy to see the numbers and stuff...like what's next? targeting ppl from other communities too? 🤔 anyway, ahmed's story needs more awareness and we should all be supporting him and his fam 💕 i hope this crackdown gets addressed soon and we can move forward as a country...it's just not right that people r being treated like they're less than equal 🙅‍♂️

😱🚫 This is just so not right! I mean, what's next? 🤯 If we start questioning people's accents just because of their heritage, that's just not who we're supposed to be as a society... "The question isn't who's going to let you; it's who's going to stop you." - Ayn Rand 💪

Ugh, another sickening story about how racism is still a thing in America 🤕. I mean, can't these agents just do their job without making assumptions based on someone's accent or heritage? It's 2025, for crying out loud! You'd think we'd be more than this by now.

And what's with the Border Patrol getting involved in Uber drivers' personal business like this? Don't they have better things to do than harass innocent people? The fact that they took cellphone videos and photos is just disgusting. It's not like Hassan was doing anything wrong, but I guess he didn't fit their narrow-minded idea of "not being Somali enough".

I'm so tired of hearing stories about systemic racism and how it affects communities like the Somalis in Minneapolis. Can't we all just get along? We need to do better, and we need to hold people in power accountable for their actions. This kind of thing needs to stop ASAP ⚠️.

omg this is getting outta hand! 🤯 i mean i get that us border patrol needs to keep an eye on immigration but taking it out on some dude just 'cause he's somali? that's straight-up unacceptable 😡. can't we just treat everyone w/ respect & dignity regardless of where they're from or what their accent is? 🙅‍♂️ anyway, kudos 2 Ahmed for speaking out & inspiring others to do the same 💪, we need more voices like him pushing against this anti-immigrant sentiment 🗣️

OMG 🤯, can u believe that this is still goin on in 2025?! 😩 Ahmed's story is literally heartbreakin', he's just tryin' to make a livin' as an Uber driver and these Border Patrol agents come at him with all this drama 'cause of his accent. It's like, hello, we're livin' in the land of the free, right? 🤷‍♀️ The fact that Somali Americans are gettin' targeted by immigration enforcement actions is just crazy. We need to be talkin' about this more and makin' sure our voices are heard! 💪 The gov needs to do better, we can't keep allowin' this systemic racism stuff to happen. It's time for some real change 🔄.

man this is so not right 🙅‍♂️... can't believe our own country is targeting people like ahmed just because of their heritage 😔. it's not just about immigration status, it's about being a human being with feelings and emotions 🤝. the fact that he was singled out and discriminated against just because of his accent is just devastating 💔. we need to do better as a society, let's stand up for each other and fight against systemic racism 🔥. every individual deserves respect and dignity, regardless of where they're from or what they look like 🌎
