Ford Worker Suspended for Heckling Trump at Plant Tour Receives Union Support and Crowdfunding Backing
A Ford worker who heckled President Donald Trump during a plant tour in Dearborn has received support from the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, which condemned the president's response as "vulgar". The employee, TJ Sabula, 40, was suspended following an exchange with Trump on Tuesday.
According to UAW Vice President Laura Dickerson, Sabula is a proud member of a strong and fighting union who has the right to express his views. "He believes in freedom of speech, a principle we wholeheartedly embrace, and we stand with our membership in protecting their voice on the job," Dickerson said.
The union will ensure that Sabula receives full protection under the contract language safeguarding his job and rights as a union member. However, workers should never be subjected to such behavior by anyone, including the President of the United States, she added.
Sabula had shouted "pedophile protector" at Trump in reference to accusations that the Trump administration is covering up an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender and former associate of Trump. In response, Trump gave him a middle finger and mouthed "fuck you" twice.
U.S. Reps Rashida Tlaib and Debbie Dingell have also spoken out in support of Sabula. Tlaib said, "He's right. The president is, in fact, protecting pedophiles... Don't come to my district and expect a warm welcome. Release the Epstein files!"
Two GoFundMe campaigns for Sabula have raised over $450,000, with both fundraisers deemed legitimate by their organizers.
The incident highlights the tension between workers who speak out against the administration's policies and those who are subjected to such behavior. As one supporter put it, "If you're going to come to my district and expect a warm welcome, you'd better have done your homework on how to treat people with respect."
