VIDEO: Confused deer briefly stops traffic on San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge

A deer's brief foray onto the iconic Golden Gate Bridge brought traffic to a grinding halt on Friday evening, leaving commuters in a state of confusion. The wildlife detour caused delays and forced officials to shut down the northbound lanes.

Video footage captured by Julian Snellgrove shows the deer strolling along the bridge near the Sausalito side before making its way off. No clear explanation has been given as to how the deer ended up on the bridge, but officials say they are investigating the matter.

Traffic congestion on the Golden Gate Bridge was unusually light that evening, paving the way for this unusual incident to occur without major disruption elsewhere.

This is crazy! I mean, who expects a deer on the Golden Gate Bridge? It's like something out of a movie or a wild animal documentary. But for real, it's good that no one was hurt and all, but still, it's a total traffic mess!

I'm curious to know how they're going to figure out how the deer got there in the first place. Maybe it was a lost kid who found a deer in the woods and brought it on the bus or something? But seriously, I guess it just goes to show that wildlife can pop up anywhere.

It's also kind of weird that the bridge was so quiet earlier that day, making it easier for this unexpected visitor to cause chaos. Guess you could say it was a "deer-astrophe" waiting to happen!

can you even imagine a deer just chillin' on the golden gate bridge?! like what is it doing out there? did it just hop onto the bridge and then just start walking around or was it part of some wildlife tour or something? idk but i'm living for this vid and poor commuters had to deal with all that traffic jam . anyway, hope the deer found its way back to nature ASAP .

Can you imagine having a furry little friend like that just chillin' on one of the most iconic landmarks in San Francisco? I mean, it's not every day you see wildlife taking over the Golden Gate Bridge! As a parent, I'm all about kids learning from nature and being curious, but this is just crazy!

I wonder if the deer was even aware of how many people were on the bridge at that time. It's amazing that it didn't get into any trouble - maybe it was just enjoying the view? Either way, I think this is a great opportunity for kids to learn about wildlife and their habitats, especially when it comes to California's beautiful outdoors!

I mean, who needs a commute that long when you can just go on a walk? A deer's got more sense than most humans stuck in traffic . It's wild (no pun intended) that it was able to cause such a stir without any major incident elsewhere. Guess the usually packed bridge had some unexpected downtime . Not sure if I'd want to be on foot across the bridge, but hey at least the deer got its 15 minutes of fame . Hope they find out what brought this furry friend to the bridge, might make for an interesting story .

A deer on the Golden Gate Bridge? What's next? Deer in Times Square? I don't think so. This is just another example of how our wildlife is getting more and more comfortable with human spaces, and we're not even doing much to deter them. It's a bit surprising that no one was able to notice the deer until it got halfway across the bridge - maybe they were all too busy scrolling through their phones . Anyway, glad no one was hurt, but let's just hope this isn't the start of a trend...

Oh man, what a weird Friday night! A deer just chillin' on the Golden Gate Bridge is not something you see every day . I guess it's great that traffic was pretty light that evening or else things would've gotten out of hand . Still, who knows how a deer even ends up on the bridge? Maybe someone let their pet out and it got away? Either way, officials are investigating so we'll just have to wait and see what happens next .
