While scientists race to study spread of measles in U.S., Kennedy unravels hard-won gains

I'm low-key freaking out about this 😩... Measles are way more contagious than people think, and this US outbreak is already having major consequences for kids' health. It's wild that anti-vax sentiment under the Trump admin has basically paved the way for this to happen 🤯 I mean, come on, a former anti-vax activist like Robert F. Kennedy Jr leading the CDC's advisory committee? That's some conspiracy theory stuff right there... 🙄 The US losing its measles-free status would be a major setback, and it's only because of how spread out these cases are across Canada and Mexico that we're not seeing more devastating outbreaks yet... but what if we do lose our status? The financial costs for each outbreak could be upwards of $12 million 🤑 I just hope the CDC's genomic analysis can give us some answers about when this started and whether it was a single case or a cluster... We need better transparency from them ASAP 💡

🤕 it's crazy how one person can affect a whole country's health. if we're not careful, we'll see more outbreaks & devastating consequences like hearing loss or even death 💔
