Years of neglect catch up to Detroit’s Leland House as residents forced out - Detroit Metro Times

OMG u guys! 💔 DTE Energy is threatening 2 shut off power at Leland House in Detroit bcs of debt crisis 🤯. Like, $50 million in liabilities & debts mountin up and they cant afford 2 pay electricity bill 📉. Its not just them tho, the city's takin action too 🚨. They're tryna kick the owners out cuz dey failed 2 make repairs 🛠️. I feel 4 da residents, its a super stressful time, especially w/ holiday season approachin 🎄. DTE's tryna help w/ payment arrangements, but its not enough 🤑. The city's offerin assistance 2 relocate, but idk how quick it'll happen 🤔. Like, what r u gonna do when u cant afford rent? 😩

The situation at Leland House is a perfect example of that quote. The city and residents are stuck in a nightmare while DTE Energy tries to find a way out, but it seems like they're not doing enough. Residents have been facing uncertainty for months, and now they're being forced to look for new homes because the power will be shut off. It's a shame that no one is stepping up to help them before things get out of hand.

And let's not forget about the Tir Equities LLC trying to buy the property without doing any major repairs or paying off their debts first. It just seems like they're more interested in making a profit than helping people.

It's time for someone to step in and fix this situation, not just talk about it. Until then, these residents will be left to suffer the consequences of their debt crisis 🤕
 
the leland house situation got me thinking, we just keep talking about revitalizing neighborhoods and communities, but what happens when the systems fail? its not just about blame or shame, its about people losing their homes and security during a holiday season. power is essential, especially for seniors and those with health issues. have our infrastructure and support systems become too complicated to handle?
 
This situation with DTE Energy threatening to cut off power at the Leland House is really worrying 🤕. I mean, who wants to be without electricity during the holidays? It's not like the city of Detroit hasn't been dealing with this building for ages, but you'd think they could come up with some kind of plan to get it back on track.

I'm not saying DTE Energy is being super unreasonable or anything, but it does seem like the owners of the Leland House have had plenty of time to figure out their problems. And now they're leaving everyone high and dry 🤦‍♂️. The city's trying to help out residents find new places to live, which is great, but what about all the stuff they'll be losing? Their belongings, their memories... it's just not right.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out 💔. Maybe someone will come up with a solution that works for everyone involved 🤞.
