A beleaguered member of Your Party, an independent MP-backed party founded by Jeremy Corbyn's team, has expressed her frustration with the chaotic membership process. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous due to concerns over racism within the party, had initially joined the party in its early stages but now finds it impossible to cancel her membership.
She claims that no one from the party responds to emails and her local branch is unable to assist. Moreover, when she tried to block payments from her credit card, they still managed to deduct Β£5 from her account this month. Her attempt to get a refund from her card issuer was also rejected. The woman feels betrayed by the party's actions, stating that it's "like they're helping themselves" to her money while causing chaos.
This situation is not an isolated incident. Other members have reported similar struggles with canceling their subscriptions, which has been ongoing for months due to public infighting among the party founders. A membership portal was launched by Zarah Sultana in September, collecting over 20,000 subscribers, but a second portal was set up by Corbyn and the other founding MPs, leaving the two websites unable to communicate.
As a result, many members are stuck with recurring payments that lack consumer protections, making it difficult to cancel. In October, subscribers were told to contact MOU Operations for refunds, only to see its directors resign shortly after due to the added responsibility. Sultana has since apologized and claimed all subscriptions through her portal have been canceled.
Your Party's leadership has acknowledged the issues, stating that they had no knowledge of the unauthorized portal but regret its publication. As an apology, the party has offered three months' free membership to those who signed up on Zarah's portal. However, for many members like the anonymous woman, it may be too little, too late.
