Ariana Grande to make London stage debut alongside Jonathan Bailey in Sunday in the Park With George

Ariana Grande Set for Star-Studded Debut in Sunday in the Park With George

Singer and actress Ariana Grande will make her highly anticipated stage debut in Stephen Sondheim's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park With George, alongside co-star Jonathan Bailey. The highly talked-about production is now officially announced to take place at the Barbican Centre in London this summer.

Grande, best known for her role as Glinda in the Wicked films, will be seen playing a character inspired by the famous pointillist Georges Seurat's artwork, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. Jonathan Bailey, who won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Fiyero in the Netflix series Bridgerton and also starred as the lead role in the West End production of Sondheim's Company, will share the stage with Grande.

The upcoming production will be directed by acclaimed theatre director Marianne Elliott, who previously worked with Bailey on an acclaimed version of Company. The show has a book written by Sondheim's long-time collaborator James Lapine and features an intricate narrative about the artist Seurat and his model Dot.

Grande's stage performance will mark her debut in London theatre. In the coming months, she is set to play 10 nights at the O2 arena as part of her Eternal Sunshine tour.

Sunday in the Park With George originally opened on Broadway in 1984 with an all-star cast that included Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters, before making its way to London's National Theatre in 1990. The musical experienced a revival at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London in 2005, which was initially intended for a West End transfer at the Savoy theatre but ultimately fell victim to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tickets will be made available in May, with further casting announcements set to follow later on.

I'm beyond hyped for her London debut at the Barbican Centre this summer! she's been teasing us with some behind-the-scenes peeks, and let me tell you, it's gonna be EPIC! πŸ’₯ Jonathan Bailey is also part of the cast, which just got even more interesting. Marianne Elliott at the helm? yes please! 🎭 I'm already counting down the days till May when tickets go on sale. make sure to get yours ASAP! πŸ˜…

so Ariana Grande is gonna star in this musical thingy Sunday in the Park With George πŸ€” it's like a classic right? I think I've seen some of her movies with that other actress Jennifer Lawrence πŸ’β€β™€οΈ but never really paid attention... so she's doing this one too. It's about art and stuff, I'm not really sure how it goes down on stage tho 🎭 guess we'll have to wait till summer to see what it's all about πŸ˜…

lol what's up 🀣 i mean who wouldn't wanna see Ariana Grande on stage she's been killing it in music and now she's gonna try her hand at theatre 🎭 sounds like a star-studded show is gonna be lit πŸ”₯ jude newton-lawrence would be so proud πŸ’–

OMG 🀩 I'm low-key hyped for Ariana Grande's stage debut in Sunday in the Park With George! She's gonna slay alongside Jonathan Bailey - I mean, have you seen him in Bridgerton? 😍 But seriously, it's so cool to see a pop star like Ari taking on a classical musical. What do u think about this collab tho? πŸ€” Should we expect more surprise casting announcements? πŸ’₯

πŸ€” I'm mixed about this news, you know? On one hand, Ariana Grande is an incredible talent and I love her music! Playing a character inspired by Georges Seurat's artwork sounds so fascinating, especially since it'll be brought to life with Sondheim's iconic score 🎡. The fact that Jonathan Bailey is on board too makes me excited for the production.

On the other hand, I'm worried about how Grande will handle the pressure of being in a theatre production alongside such legendary artists. She's got a huge following and a lot of expectations from her fans, which can be overwhelming 😬. And then there's the fact that this is her debut in London theatre – she'll be under the spotlight, and it might be a bit too much for her to handle.

Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Grande and the team! 🀞 It's going to be a huge production with an all-star cast, so I'm sure it'll be amazing either way. Bring on May when tickets go on sale – I'll be definitely checking them out πŸ‘

πŸŽπŸ’« just heard that Ariana Grande is going to star in Sunday in the Park With George at the Barbican Centre in London this summer... I'm hyped! I love Ari's acting skills and I've always been a fan of Sondheim's music, so this production is going to be epic. The fact that it's directed by Marianne Elliott, who's known for her amazing work with Jonathan Bailey, just makes me more excited! 🀩 It's also cool that she'll be playing an inspiration from Seurat's artwork... the pointillist style always fascinated me. Can't wait for May when tickets go on sale! 😍

Fingers crossed she'll get to perform in London this summer, can't wait for those tickets to drop! 🎟️

She's going to slay the game alongside Jonathan Bailey and I'm low-key jealous that I won't be able to get tickets πŸ™„. The fact that it's going to take place at the Barbican Centre in London this summer is giving me LIFE #SundayInTheParkWithGeorge #ArianaGrande #LondonTheatre #MarianneElliott #DreamComeTrue 🌟

I've seen the production before, it's one of my fave musicals of all time! The story is so beautiful and the music... oh man, the music 🎢. I'm really excited to see Ariana bring her own twist to the character inspired by Georges Seurat's artwork. Fingers crossed she'll be singing some of her hits during the performance 🀞 #ArianaGrandeSings #SundayInTheParkWithGeorge #EternalSunshineTour

πŸ€” so they're making Ariana Grande do some fancy musical thingy now... I guess it's cool that she's gonna play a character inspired by an old art piece, but what if she totally bombs on stage? 🎭 her singing voice is nice and all, but can she actually dance or act? πŸ•Ί this production has been around for ages, how long will they keep re-releasing the same show with different people just to make a quick buck? πŸ’Έ I mean, Jonathan Bailey is fine, but what about the rest of the cast? Will they be able to hold their own next to Grande's star power? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

omg I'm so stoked Ariana Grande is doing Sunday in the Park With George 🀩 it's like she's finally getting her chance to show off her acting chops after Wicked and Eternal Sunshine tours. Marianne Elliott directing is a huge plus btw - she's got such a unique vision for musicals. And Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero? 😍 I'm low-key excited to see this production come together, especially since it's been years since the last revival in London. Can't wait to get those tickets and experience it live πŸ’–

omg can u believe it 🀯 Ariana Grande is going to star in Sunday in the Park With George?! 🎭 it's like, her first London theatre show ever!!! πŸ“… she's gonna share the stage with Jonathan Bailey who's already a total heartthrob for me 😍 did u know that Sondheim's musical has won a Pulitzer Prize? πŸ† 1984 was like, ages ago when it first opened on Broadway and it had an all-star cast including Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters!!! πŸ’₯ the production went through so many changes since then but now it's back and better than ever! πŸŽ‰ Marianne Elliott is directing which is no surprise because she's a total theatre genius πŸ€“ and James Lapine wrote the book... what do u guys think of this casting? πŸ€”

I'm so hyped about Ariana Grande's debut in Sunday in the Park With George 🀩! I mean, she's already slaying the music game and now she's gonna take our breath away on stage too! Jonathan Bailey is an amazing co-star and Marianne Elliott is a genius director. I love how this show is bringing together art and history - it's like Seurat's painting coming to life right before our eyes πŸŽ¨πŸ‘

I'm also super excited for her upcoming tour at the O2 arena, she's gonna blow the roof off with that Eternal Sunshine energy! 🌟 Can't wait to get those tix in May and catch this production - it's gonna be a wild ride!

I don't get why Ariana Grande is so hyped about doing this musical thingy... I mean, it's just a bunch of people pretending to be art, right? πŸ€” I love Sondheim and all, but it's not like she's breaking any new ground here. And London theatre in the summer is gonna be super crowded and expensive - I'll probably end up stuck in a tiny flat with no AC during the summer. 🌑️ I'd rather stay home and listen to her music on repeat than pay top dollar for seats to some stage show...

πŸ€” So I'm loving Ariana Grande's move into theater, but I gotta say, 'Sunday in the Park With George' is a pretty big commitment for her - 10 nights at the O2 arena sounds exhausting! πŸ˜… But hey, it'll be cool to see her tackle a new creative challenge alongside Jonathan Bailey. The production itself seems really interesting, especially with Marianne Elliott at the helm - she's done some amazing work in the past. Fingers crossed they can get all the tickets sorted out in time for May... 🀞
